I replaced the motor and all other moving components along with the felt drum seals.drum glides and drive belt. The wiring instruction is where i had the most problems. Because my wiring had only 4 wires in the harness not 5, and one was a different color then the instructions call out, I believe was because it might have been and older model. the instruction called for a gray wire but mine was white with a blue piggy back wire attached. but after finding a few videos on line i figured that the... In the past, I replaced some electronic components on our gas dryer, the solenoid and the electronic ignitor, but the rest of the dryer looked more difficult to repair if needed in the future. I was wrong. I went unto AppliancePartsPros.com and watched some repair videos on dryers like mine that make big thumping sounds while drying. This happened when I googled my dryer model number in an attempt to find out is capacity, because I wanted our new dryer to have the same capacity. I found out... Read more

I just wanted to put my experience here for all to see. I have a Maytag Neptune, MAH5500BWW, one of the original ones. I bought it back in 2002 and it has done many many loads of wash faithfully. So when the bearings started to get loud I thought it best to replace them, the seal kit and the belt. I did my research as best I could and decided to order the OEM parts from an appliance supplier. If you are replacing the bearings, watch on line videos prior to performing the job. It will... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My 20 year old maytag washer was knocking durring the wash cycle   Dennis K. • Antioch , CA • November 15, 2015

I took the cover off the transmission and determined that the only possible knocking had to be coming from the yoke. I ordered a new yoke and all the tub seals needed to put it back together like new. I also ordered a new drive pulley bearing because this bearing is always turning whenever the washer is used. I cleaned all the parts up while I was waiting for the new parts to arrive. I promised my wife I would make it look like new. I installed all the new parts in one day and let the... Read more

For several months we could smell a slight odor of propane in the laundry room and wondered why, just didn't seem like it was enough to be overly concerned, but thought something must be wrong with the dryer, but it was still working. We just didn't know how inefficiently. Then the extra time it took to dry a load of clothes progressively seemed to get longer, but things still seemed to work fine and the clothes got dried, given enough time. I replaced the hose between the tub and the pump. The clamp screws were quite rusted but I used a socket wrench on them since they have hex heads in addition to the screwdriver slot. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lack of heat and long drying times   Allan H. • Baroda , MI • March 06, 2016

Our Maytag gas clothes dryer was not drying like it should/used to and was making a lot of noise. After researching online I figured the vent was partially blocked and/or the blower wheel was bad. When I took it apart, the vent had very little lint in the lower elbow exiting the back of the dryer but the blower wheel was loose on the shaft and was missing the clamp. I cleaned out the vent and put a hose clamp on the blower wheel to tighten it to the shaft and tried it again. The noise was... Read more

Pivoting metal arm that maintains belt tension in your dryer's drive system. Replace if bent, cracked, or wobbling excessively when drum is removed.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clothes dryer had developed a loud squealing noise the problem turned out to be the idler pulley wheel   Don F. • Bakersfield , CA • September 19, 2020

I removed the front panel of the dryer by removing 2 screws and lifting it up and out. Then I removed 4 screws from the bracket holding the tub in place. I had previously removed the 4 screws from the rear inspection cover so I reached in and released the spring loaded belt that turns the tub and then removed the idler pulley wheel. The tub just lifts out at that point, exposing the 2 Drum support rollers in the rear. I removed the 2 rear drum support rollers and decided to order 2 of... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Maytag clothes washer would not spin or drain   Ben M. • Wallingford , CT • September 29, 2018

The washer was on, and I heard a faint humming sound in the laundry room. I went in and opened the washer and it was full of soapy water in the middle of its cycle and was not agitating. I also smelled a faint burning smell. At this point I figured the problem was a bad motor, as the washer is more than 20 years old.
