Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leaking sump housing   Allen G. • Elkhorn , NE • January 15, 2016

I noticed the floor around the dishwasher was starting to get wet and warp the wooden floor. The chopper had gotten out of line and had cut a pinhole into the sump housing and the dishwasher was leaking badly. It was quite easy to repair. Just unhook the drain hose and the wire connectors, twist off the turbidity sensor and waste motor, pull out the shims and the whole assemple comes up and out. The hardest part was pulling the motor off of the assembly, since I wasn't sure if I needed to... Read more

Float And Shaft Assembly (Overfill Control)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8268895

This overfill float and shaft assembly monitors the dishwasher's water level. As the tub fills, the float rises and triggers the float switch to shut off the inlet water, helping prevent overfilling and leaks.

  • Senses tub water level and moves up/down with the water
  • Activates the float switch to stop filling at the correct level
  • Helps protect against overfill-related leaks
  • Common symptoms include: won't fill (float stuck up), continuous filling/overfilling (float stuck down or damaged), or float not moving freely
What's included: Float and shaft assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing
  • Lift the old float straight up from inside the tub; access the underside (behind the toe panel) as needed to release the shaft from the float switch lever
  • Install the new shaft through the guide and onto the switch lever; seat the float so it moves freely
  • Verify smooth float movement and test a fill cycle while checking for leaks

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Kitchenaid dishwasher kudp02frss2 leak at float switch at front right of unit   Richard B. • Mahwah , NJ • December 02, 2016

Removed bottom cover, located leak at float switch, removed and replaced float switch kit. The toughest part of the repair was removing the Float & Retainer Assembly (in the interior of the machine tank) which broke when I pushed it back and pulled it straight up as suggested in the service manual. The Float Switch Kit (attached to, and below the float, below and outside the tank) has a folding plastic cover which fastens with plastic clips. If you open the switch kit before removing the... Pump Motor Assembly
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10806701

This replacement part is a dishwasher pump and motor assembly. The dishwasher pump and pump motor circulate water through the dishwasher's spray arm. When the spray arms aren't spraying properly, this could mean that it's time for a new pump and motor assembly. Luckily replacing this part is a relatively simple process.Start by making sure the dishwasher is unplugged. After that shut off the water supply going to the dishwasher. Then disconnect the drain line from the garbage disposal or sink drain. Open the dishwasher door and pull out the bottom dish rack. Remove the upper dishrack from its track. Release the spray arm on the bottom of the washer. Then proceed to release the feed tube clips. Using a nut driver remove the bottom access panel and tow panel. Pull them out to remove them. Remove the power cable from the junction box, and disconnect the supply line from the inlet valve. Proceed to pull the dishwasher out of the counter. Tilt the dishwasher on its side and pull the hose from the drain pump. Remove the wire harness from the pump. Disconnect wires from diverter motor and circulation motor. Once complete, proceed to tilt the dishwasher upright and remove the pump and motor assembly from the bottom of the dishwasher. Replace with the new assembly. This replacement part is compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand dishwashers.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool dishwasher makes loud buzzing noise when the motor/pump runs   Stephen H. • Gainesville , FL • December 14, 2014

Checked the grinder/pump well at the bottom of the dishwasher and fished out some aluminum foil, wire twist ties, broken plastic forks, etc. That was fun but it didn't solve the problem. Purchased new pump & motor assembly and installed it as per Youtube video. It requires pulling out the dishwasher, disconnecting electric, hotwater, and drain lines, and then removing a bunch of clips and connectors. That was time consuming but basically easy ... except that seating the new assembly gasket... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Our dishwasher would not start.   Rory D. • Fairfield , CA • May 18, 2020

A bit of searching on the internet narrowed the problem down to either the heating element or the control board. As I am not much of a diagnostician I decided to replace both. Along this same line, I would never have attempted these repairs if it hadn't been for the clear, easy to understand repair videos provided for each part. Further, my decision to do my own repairs was made easier because the prices of the parts was so reasonable. I took my time, reviewed the videos and replaced the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Jenn airJDB8000AWS3 dishwasher would not drain   Lynden B. • Benicia , CA • December 17, 2019

Dishwasher washer would not drain after hearing glass-like particles during the drain cycle despite trying to clean the cylinder filter. Originally suspected the drain motor was damaged. After watching a video on how to replace the drain pump, I carefully energized the dishwasher (from water and electricity) then removed the dishwasher to take a look. After removal of drain hose from the pump, discovered that drain hose was connected to water inlet assembly which also needed removal to... Read more
