Electrode
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11165163

The Electrode is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It is responsible for detecting the moisture levels in your laundry during the drying cycle, allowing the dryer to automatically adjust the drying time and temperature. It helps prevent over-drying or under-drying of your clothes, saving energy and protecting them from potential damage.

A bad electrode can occur due to wear and tear, damage, or a buildup of debris or lint. If you notice symptoms such as clothes taking longer to dry, the dryer shutting off prematurely, or inconsistent drying results, it may be time to replace the moisture sensor bar electrode.

Symptoms of a bad electrode include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry than usual
  • The dryer shutting off prematurely
  • Inconsistent drying results, with some items remaining damp

Repair your dryer by replacing the faulty or damaged electrode with this genuine OEM part.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Moisture Sensor (Dryer)
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 134786110

This moisture sensor monitors dampness inside the dryer drum and signals the control when fabrics are dry, helping automatic cycles end on time and avoid overdrying. Replacing a failed sensor can restore consistent Auto Dry performance and cycle times. What it does:

  • Detects moisture level via conductivity across the sensor surfaces inside the drum
  • Sends feedback to the control so Auto Dry cycles advance and stop correctly
  • Helps prevent overdrying and underdrying in sensor-based cycles
  • Common symptoms of a faulty sensor may include: auto cycles ending too soon or running too long, clothes remaining damp, or the dryer staying on "Sensing" while timed cycles still work
What's included:
  • 1 moisture sensor
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and, if applicable, shut off gas before servicing
  • Access the sensor at the front bulkhead/lint housing area; remove front panel as needed per model
  • Transfer connectors and route wiring exactly as original; secure the sensor firmly
  • Clean the sensor contact surfaces with rubbing alcohol; residue from dryer sheets or fabric softeners can affect readings

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Clothes got stuck on moisture sensor bar and broke it off   Felix M. • Kyle , TX • April 17, 2015

Fixed it in 5minutes. One end has a Phillips head screw and the other has a tab with to metal leads for wires. The end with the tab broke. I removed the screw for the other end abd the sensor bar came off. To put the new piece on, I connected the wires to the leads, slid the tab end into place on the drum and screwed in the other end. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You It was taking unusually long to dry a typical load   Robert L. • Williamsburg , VA • November 15, 2014

I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator section was freezing food   Andrew B. • Rolling Prairie , IN • January 08, 2016

After reading stories on this website I decided the problem was probably the control board. I ordered the sensors also just in case. The display has been dim for awhile so I got that also. I replaced the board and the display in less than an hour. It is working perfectly now so I never installed the sensors. I believe the board was ruined by a recent power outage. The power flickered several times before it went out, I don't think the board could handle the fluctuations. This will be my go to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice maker was making very small ice cubes with a cloudy appearance   Igal E. • Memphis , TN • January 01, 2017

There are plenty of DIY youtube videos to show you how to replace the parts. I went ahead and replaced more than just the broken parts. I figured if I had the machine opened up, I might as well replace parts that could go out in the future. I might have gone a bit too far with all the other parts. The only part that was really broken was the wiring harness. Two of the wires had corroded from the sockets and there was no other way than to replace the entire harness. Its a bit tricky to feed...
