Igniter Bake Parts

Bake Element (Lower Oven)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP3177420

This replacement bake element restores the lower oven heat in electric ranges/ovens. It brings back proper preheating and even baking performance when the original element is burned out or physically damaged. What it does:

  • Provides the primary heat from the bottom of the oven during Bake cycles
  • Common signs of failure: no heat in Bake, very long preheat times, uneven baking, or visible blisters/cracks on the element
  • If Broil still works but Bake does not, the bake element is a likely failure point
  • Located at the bottom of the oven cavity to deliver even, consistent heat
What's included:
  • 1 bake element
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker and let the oven cool completely before servicing
  • Remove oven racks; take out the element's mounting screws and gently pull the element forward
  • Transfer the two wires to the new element, keeping them from slipping back into the oven cavity
  • Reinstall the element and screws, restore power, and test Bake
Diagnostic tip:
  • With power disconnected, check the element for continuity; an open circuit typically indicates a failed element

  • Little to no heat when baking

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Heating element on our oven burnt out   Jay S. • Medway , MA • November 23, 2015

Simple replacement of the heating element. Found multiple videos on youtube that show how to to do this repair. The cooktop is easily opened by removing 3 screws, but I recommend having a second set of hands when performing the repair because you will have to hold up the glass stove top and unscrew the components. The heating element is attached to a bracket that comes off easy as well. Also have to detach 5 wires that mate by sliding together. We took a picture before removing to make... Read more

Installed replacement burner. Not a one-to-one fit where the wiring is concerned but everything needed to effect the change out was provided with the part. It is important to make notes of what was connected to what on the old one and to compare that to the new one. I used a download of the wiring diagram to good effect because it has the color code for the wiring on it. Ordered the igniter for the oven then I also ordered the igniter for the broiler as it was sluggish as well. When you go, go all the way. Only problem I had was with the wire nuts, wish that something more substantial was provided. Got the stuff quickly, as promised and installed as per video and oven and broiler work like new. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I am an idiot don't be me   Tim M. • Yuma , AZ • January 13, 2020

I broke two of the elements in my GE Profile cooktop because I failed miserably at removing the glass top. It pays to do your research, kiddies. All it takes is a Number 10 Torx bit to remove 12 screws holding the glass to the body of the appliance, and it lifts straight up. I was replacing the glass because it broke during my home's construction.
