Defrost Heater
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2315530

The Defrost Heater is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool French door refrigerators. It is an electric heating element strategically placed within the refrigerator compartment and freezer liners. This component aids in preventing excessive moisture buildup from condensation formed during normal operation.

Causes for heater failure include standard component degradation from prolonged use. Exposure to moisture accumulating over time can damage wiring insulation or short-circuit coil filaments as well.

Symptoms of an inadequate defrost heater involve:

  • Frost buildup interfering with door seals and interior shelving
  • Promotion of mold/mildew growth from sustained dampness
  • Food spoilage risks due to the inability to regulate proper humidity

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refrigerator not cooling but freezer working   Patricia M. • Apache Junction , AZ • July 18, 2014

I ordered the heating element by phone and when I promptly recieved the part I watched the installation video provided on the website and easily changed out the part. My refrigerator is over 10 years old but I am currently buying a home which will have a refrigerator in it so buying a new one at this time was not needed. Being able to purchase the part at a reasonable price and do the repair myself was great! Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Defrost heater   Thomas B. • Albuquerque , NM • July 11, 2022

My freezer units back inside panel were icing up and on the refrigerator side it wasn't cooling down to the normal setting. The unit was constantly running and I knew it was one or more of three things. Defrost timer, defrost heater, or defrost thermostat. The timer was good so I ordered a new thermostat and heater from AppliancePartsPros.com. After pulling the rear panel and allowing the ice buildup to drain off, I replaced the heater and thermostat. My issue was a bad defrost heater but a ... Read more

Refrigerator Defrost Control Board
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR55X21623

Fix a refrigerator that won't defrost or has an iced-up evaporator coil. This defrost control board manages defrost cycles to prevent frost buildup.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The evaporator coil kept getting heavily frosted and the compressor ran almost continuously   Reid D. • Santa Maria , CA • April 01, 2016

The defrost heater element looked good and had continuity. The defrost thermostats checked good, so that just left the Defrost Module as the likely suspect. I installed a new defrost control module and thermostats. The thermostats were inexpensive and the old ones could have been intermittent, The only "tricky" part was finding out how to get to the back screw that holds the main control panel. Discovered that the return air duct surrounding the control panel needed to come off. It helps... Read more

Temperature Sensor Seal
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR02X10668

The Temperature Sensor Seal is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This seal is designed to protect the temperature sensor from moisture and other environmental factors that could affect its accuracy and longevity. By providing a barrier against the harsh conditions within a refrigerator, such as humidity and temperature fluctuations, this seal ensures that the sensor can accurately monitor and control the refrigerator's internal temperature.

Causes of a malfunctioning Temperature Sensor Seal can include wear and tear over time, degrading the seal's effectiveness. Physical damage like tears or punctures can allow moisture to reach the sensor. Improper installation may leave gaps or loose areas around the sensor, compromising the seal.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor Seal include:

  • Inaccurate temperature readings.
  • Condensation or frost near the sensor location.
  • Frequent cycling or unusual patterns in the refrigerator's cooling process.

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Fridge keept building up ice in defrost drain drain in freezer. Once the drain pan filled with ice it drips into fridge compartment. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The freezer would freeze up drip water into refrigerator then freeze refrigerator contents and had to be manually defrosted   Rob S. • Fort Thomas , KY • December 13, 2014

Ordered parts, defrosted refrigerator, and replaced with new items. This problem has been going on quite some time, while Samsung refused to acknowledge the defective unit, claiming it was owner fault. The defrosting had to be completed every 3-4 months and managed in time to require defrosting every few days. Originally a repairman came and although he defrosted it the first time, he informed us, this is quite common and the unit is defective by design; which is why we continued to defrost on... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker evaporator would not defrost causing a large build up of ice in the evaporator housing   Chris S. • Highland , CA • February 15, 2016

Replaced evaporator heater and housing. Just make sure you also replace the thermostat. If not it is a little challenging to get the wires out of the old thermostat/ heater plug into the new plug. Also if you have the same problem be prepared to have a good heat gun to melt the ice buildup around the evaporator and drain hole. Heater defroster part number AP5982425. I have GE model GTE16DTHCRBB. I found a Youtube video of a repair of a similar model. Getting the heater defroster out was not a piece of cake because you can not see the mounting due to it being behind the coils, same is true for reinstalling the new. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water leaking into fresh food compartment freezed frosted over   Charles L. • Frankfort , IL • July 18, 2016

This is a 15 yr old Kenmore (GE) refrigerator with top mounted freezer... I knew, for awhile, that I had a DEFROST problem. That was causing water to collect on the inside bottom of the fridge, under the veg./fruit bins. And then occasionally run out onto the kitchen floor if I didn't sop up the water inside. But I delayed the repair because of the hassle of emptying the food, top and bottom, and finding temporary homes for it all. Until I noticed 3 things happen in short order. 1)The water... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The defrost heater would not work   John R. • Lumberton , MS • May 21, 2019

The refrigerator was given to me and hasn't defrosted since it was new. I found the defrost timer had a burnt spot on the circuit board. After installing a new timer, the refrigerator would trip the circuit breaker in my house when it entered defrost mode. I found that the pink wire running from the control board all the way to the thermostat was shorted somewhere between the two parts, inside the refrigerator. I ran a new "pink" wire and all is good. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The whirlpool side by side needed upgrade of control components   William M. • Sunnyside , WA • February 06, 2017

The 20 year old unit still serves us well, looks good and has been kept in good repair. The condenser fan had stopped so I removed, cleaned and oiled that motor. The decision was made to make an upgrade to the evaporator motor and control units so that the appliance could reasonably be expected to have extended service life.
