Replacing this filter was very easy: two screws hold in the grill cover at the top of the microwave, and then the filter just slides in and out of its holder. There was quite a bit of grease in the area, probably pulled there by the vent from the stove top. I cleaned the grease up and also hand-washed the wire-mesh filter on the bottom of the microwave with soap and warm water. Airflow when running the vent is now noticeably better.

When Microwaving food, the display panel would seem to act normal, but the typical microwave sound would be absent. No microwave action would occur. Eventually an F5 code would display. Problem was the upper door switch. Found it by opening up the cabinet, removing the display panel (1 screw and a couple of plugs) and testing all three micro switched with a meter. Well, I gotta say I was happy to find you still had parts for almost 20 year old microwaves. The microwave itself worked fine, so I hated to have to buy a new one, but I just couldn't take being hit in the head anymore; and my fix of using string and wire to tie it to the surrounding cabinets was unsightly to say the least. I'm glad I did some research and found this part - all I had to do was pop it in place and now the vent grill is secure. Problem solved with minimal cost.

I removed the plastic plate at the top of the microwave (behind the door) by unscrewing two screws with a screwdriver. I then pulled out the old filter, and placed the new one in the designated area. No tools are needed to insert the filter....just a screwdriver to remove/replace the plastic plate. Very simple.

I started by watching the video posted by couple of people on youtube on how to replace a microwave handle. After taking out the liner, I hit a roadblock with unscrewing the handle screw. The grip on the front side had basically melted causing it to be loose, so the screw and the plastic part would rotate together. After trying several things, I gave up and took it to Ace hardware to find an extractor of some sort. Luckily, the guys there used several tools and managed to get the screw out....
