The Flood Switch Assembly is an OEM part for GE dishwashers that is responsible for detecting water levels in the dishwasher's base, preventing potential flooding by shutting off the water intake if an overflow is detected. This helps in avoiding water damage to your home and ensuring the dishwasher operates normally.
Symptoms of a bad Flood Switch Assembly include:
- The dishwasher not filling with water
- Water not draining properly
- The dishwasher stops during a cycle
Causes of a bad flood switch assembly can vary from debris accumulation affecting the float's movement to electrical issues within the switch mechanism. Over time, wear and tear on the float or switch can lead to failures.
This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

The dishwasher would not fill with water Jeffrey J. • Ramsey , MN • December 02, 2014
Removed the lower rack, removed the lower wash arm, removed the lower coarse filter, removed fine filter ( still no tools require to this point). Removed two 1/4" head screws with nut driver to then remove float switch, unplugged float switch, plugged in new switch, reinstalled filter, etc. This is a 5 minut job!
