The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. I went on YouTube: and type in Kenmore dryer not turning on. Watched several videos to narrow down the possible problem. Next step was to... Read more
Dryer won't start or shuts off unexpectedly? A failed thermal limiter is often the cause. This safety fuse prevents overheating. DIY repair in 30-45 minutes.
Recommendations have fun and a bucket to prevent losing parts. First watch the videos, practice disassemble and reassemble the dryer drum. Make certain you have a good screw driver and spatula from kitchen (could not find my putty knife). Secondly, clean and inspect everything, make sure the motor bearing and belt pulleys are in good condition with little or no play. Third after you have confidently disassembled, vacuum cleaned, inspected all the worn parts, grease the motor and pulley,... Read more
Washer won't drain or spin? A clogged or failed drain pump is the likely cause. This part removes water from the tub between cycles. DIY repair in 15-30 minutes.
So, Saturday, the washer wouldn't drain, yes, I tried the Drain/Spin cycle. So I took the clothes out, rinsed them out twice in the laundry sink and dried them. After a quick Google search, I came to the conclusion that the pump was bad and ordered a pump, $125. Over the course of the next four days, expecting the new pump on Thursday, I baled out the washer, pulled it out from the wall and propped up the front (it's HEAVY), removed the front access panel, removed the drain inlet and outlet... My 12 year old Frigidaire stack on top dryer had been beeping distress messages in some unintelligible code for about a year when it completely stopped producing heat. It also had a long standing issue with delicate fabrics and thin straps or drawstrings getting caught in the drum. After using this site to troubleshoot and viewing the useful how-to videos, I ordered and replaced the heating element, thermal limiter, and felt seals. Based on others' stories, I decided to also replace the rear... Read more
Drive belt connects motor to drum for wash and spin cycles. Replace if washer won't spin, clothes stay wet, or you smell burning rubber. Verify fit.
I replaced the spin bearing, tub seal, washer and drive belt since I had it all apart. The video was extremely helpful...I would have tore the whole thing apart trying to figure out how the agitator came off....but it was very simple. Read more
Supports the front of the dryer drum for smooth, quiet rotation. Replace if you hear scraping noise or see wear marks. Verify fit with your model number.
The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. Lack of parts and hardware challenged the effort. For example, the blower assembly did not have the slide capture for the motor. I had to use the old one which is showing its age. With the exception of the drum... Read more
Dryer won't heat or stops heating after 10-15 minutes? Gas valve coils control burner ignition. Simple 5-10 minute repair with video guide included.
Being a complete DIY I hate to call some unknown person into my home knowing that just to get them there will cost me more than I will spend for parts that I don't need. After all, they are trying to make a living and by selling me parts that I don't need will increase their profits. I've dealt with APP before and was impressed by their site because I could find both mechanical and electrical drawings for almost everything I have. I looked up my dryer, decided what was probably the problem,... Read more

The Agitator is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire washing machines. The agitator's motion helps to loosen dirt and stains from fabrics. The agitator measures approximately 17" tall
Causes of a bad agitator can include wear and tear over time, damage from washing heavy or unbalanced loads, or issues with the agitator’s internal mechanisms that reduce its efficiency.
Symptoms of a bad Agitator include:
This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.
This was a fairly easy fix. The only problem I had was that the cover over the retaining nut was difficult to pull off. I changed to a larger pair of pliers and put a little more muscle to it and it popped right out. There was a little corrosion on the shaft that needed to scraped off for the new agitator to slide on easily but after that was gone the new part slid on and with some downward pressure it seated in. The Idler Arm Assembly is an OEM part for Frigidaire dryers. It is an essential component of the dryer's drum support system, responsible for maintaining the proper alignment and smooth rotation of the drum during operation. The idler arm assembly typically consists of an idler arm, pulley, and bearings, working together to support the weight of the drum and facilitate its rotational movement.
Symptoms of a bad idler arm assembly in a dryer include:
Causes of a bad idler arm assembly can include wear and tear over time, damage from foreign objects entering the drum, or issues with the bearings or pulley components. A faulty idler arm assembly can lead to improper drum alignment, increased friction, and potential damage to other parts of the dryer.
Main problem was worn bearings in the motor, which was replaced. Additional issues were worn pulley on tensioner and impeller slipping on motor shaft. Pulley was replaced and hose clamp was used to secure blower on shaft. Read more
I used the internet and checked a dry fuse, and it tested ok. Checked the start switch, ok. So it had to be the motor. Sharon at the company agreed. Motor, and belt arrive very fast. ordered the belt because, if I had it apart why not change it. Internet also helped get the dryer apart. Found on u-tube a repairman cut a hole in the side to gain easy access. This dryer is not easy to work on, but this helped, and will make further repairs much easier. Using the internet, and...
