After 22 years my Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer stopped getting hot. So I went ahead and reviewed the videos and figured I could repair it myself. I am not an electrician, just a housewife with limited funds and a desire to DIY. I ordered the part I was sure I needed through the Appliance Pro website. I was surprised the part arrived in just two days. FIRST UNPLUG THE OVEN.. I removed the baking racks then two screws holding the plate over the element. I then removed three screws holding the old element in place, then gently wiggle/pull the element free from the electrical connections in the back of the oven. Watched video. Took dryer apart to get to heating element and sensors. In process found alot of lint had escaped into inner dryer and had a thick coating over heating element. I cleaned out most lint and pulled apart lint trap on front and cleaned out as much accumulated lint as possible. First ran the built-in diagnostic tests. Got error code indicating that the inlet thermistor was open. Removed lower access panel and did continuity checks on the inlet thermistor, thermal cutoff and heating element. Even doing these checks is very difficult on this model due to the location of these parts and the limited access through the so-called access panel. Watched AppliancePartsPros.com instruction video. Ordered new oven bake element, which arrived a couple days later. Removed old oven bake elelment. Installed new oven bake element. I am very appreciative of the instructional video. It's a very handy way for me to figure out if it's a do-it-yourself repair or not. Visually inspected bottom heating element and found that it had failed. There was a @2" gap of missing element and burned debris below the damaged area. This was discovered 3 days before Christmas. 1. Open under oven storage drawer and look on the left inside frame frame for Model ID and Serial No. 2. I unplugged the fridge and took all the food and shelving out of the freezer and then proceeded to take off the bottom sliding drawer rack on both sides off (4 Phillips head screws). Then took off the light bulb cover and then the light bulb. Then the back wall that covers the coils and tubes that the refrigerant runs through ( 2 screws with hex head). It took a few of us. One to vacuum up the fire extinguisher residue. One to trip the breaker. One to provide light. One to clean out under the stove while it was pulled out. I disconnected the bake element. I needed help to disconnect one of them because it was very tight. I put the element into the oven and reconnected the right side, very easy. I cannot not sing the praises of this company & their helpful & fast service. I am going to post the online site address w/my praises on my facebook page for my friends that live on ranches many miles from appliance repair shops & towns. The Oven in our house is for sure over 20 yrs old it was in this home when we bought it, the home is 33 yrs old & the Oven is a Wall Oven, there is not room for a standard Oven in this Kitchen. The first thing I did was call appliance pros. The tec told me it was a good chance it was the thermostat. He told how to test it with my ohm meter and what range it should be in. I pulled it out and tested it, which was out of the limits he told me it should be in. So I ordered the part. When it arrived in two days, I installed it. The oven now works perfect. I followed the directions on several websites for repairs. The obvious place to start is the heating coil and thermostat. I checked the continuity of the coil and it was good with a reading of almost zero resistance. Next I read that there is no thermostat controls on my GE dishwasher so I followed another webpage that said the Sensor Turbidity Assembly acts like a thermostat so I replaced that.
