The Detergent Module is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It is designed to dispense the correct amount of detergent at the appropriate times during the wash cycle, ensuring that dishes are cleaned effectively. The module holds the detergent and releases it into the dishwasher when needed, contributing to the overall performance and efficiency of the appliance.
Causes of a bad detergent module can include buildup of detergent residues, which can clog the dispenser mechanism, or damage to the module's door or latch, preventing it from opening correctly. Additionally, electrical faults or wear and tear over time can impair the module's functionality, leading to ineffective detergent dispensing.
Symptoms of a bad detergent module include:
- The detergent not dispensing or remaining in the compartment after the wash cycle
- Dishes not being cleaned properly due to insufficient detergent use
- The module door not opening or closing correctly
- Leaks or drips from the detergent module area
- Error codes related to the dispensing system
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Soap dispenser would not open during wash cycle Kyle C. • Tallahassee , FL • November 23, 2014
Tried CLR to remove hard water deposits. That did not help. Ordered new dispenser. The GE series that the detergent module fits in was a little difficult to open. Finally found a video explaining the whole door had to come off in order to open it up to replace the module. Works great now.
