Our GE was installed about 8 years ago and was AWESOME for much of its early life. However, progressively its cleaning ability diminished. By replacing all the spray arms (clogged with debris), filters, drain hose, and sump...this dishwasher cleans like it did when it was new! Cost was around $100 (also replaced a wheel and the silverware basket) and labor was relatively simple. And to think...my mother-in-law said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a new one?!?". At first it seems that the pulley can't be removed to make this repair. However,after removing the screw that holds the pulley in place, if you take a small screwdriver and tap the center of the pulley bracket with a hammer it comes out from behind and will go back in with hand pressure after repair. Probably the easiest diagnosis and fix ever - when I removed the bottom panels half of the old arm was lying on the floor. Then it was simply a matter of finding and ordering the part. When the part arrived I removed the retaining clip with a small screwdriver, slid off the remainder of the old arm, slid on the new arm with the solenoid plunger in place, slid in the retaining clip with needle nosed pliers and closed up the machine.
