AppliancePartsPros.com enabled me to order the correct knobs by putting in the model number of the stove and by showing closeup pictures of the front and back of the knobs. For example, one out the the 4 knobs was for the simmer burner. I was given this information and that knob has "simmer" on it while the other 3 don't. This wasn't really a 'fix' but here's what happened. Over the last 24 years the knobs on our JennAir electric cooktop were broken. Generic replacements didn't fit exactly. I received the part promptly and was happy to see the new core is aluminium and not plastic like before. I'm sure I will have no more trouble with this knob. Causes of a bad grommet typically include degradation of the rubber material over time due to heat exposure during cooking. Physical stress from repeated installation/removal can also crack or loosen the seal.
