Replaced agitator and washplate bolt and washer. Normally this would have been a 5 min job, however the bolt wouldn't come loose. The teeth on the agitator were worn down and the shaft the bolt screws into would turn with the bolt when trying to loosen it. I had to cut out the agitator using a dremel and hold the shaft in place with a vise grip in order to unscrew the bolt. Once the bolt was out I used WD-40 to help get the agitator off the gears. First, DO NOT call Sears for parts, their call center knows nothing about the product. App-Pros are the best for help and the right parts. Simply lift up the old filter and cap and discard it. The new assembly simply pushes down and on to the agitator base. It stays in place by clicking over a raised perimeter rib on the base. This is the easiest repair (short of screwing in a light bulb) that one could do. The hardest part was to identify which parts I needed to purchase. 18 year old Maytag Atlantis top load washer had a load knocking and rattle sound with excessive vibration when the tub was spinning, but not when it was agitating. They was no water leaking. Disassembled and confirmed the clutch was bad. Also noticed a slight leak from the transmission shaft seal. Ordered replacement clutch, seal and oil from appliancepartspros.com. First I needed to replaced the timer. However that timer is no longer available. So I was not able to buy that part. A friend encouraged me to cross reference the part number. I did and I found another timer that claimed it would work on my machine. It looked very similar. I got the timer from you guys and put it in. Checked the circuit board to see if R11 was burnt and it was. They told me if the wax motor had a brown tip that I would have to replace the Machine control circuit board as well as the Wax motor. I ordered the new parts put them in and it worked. Read more
