Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. I replaced the Thermostat and Defrost Timer. It was a fairly easy repair other than removing the old Defrost Timer. The way the manufacturer, in this case, Amana, mounts that unit with "clips" is just poor design and engineering. It is virtually impossible to get the timer out without damaging the mounts. I suspected the start-relay and tested it due to the lint plugged condenser coils. The start-relay rattled when shook, a telling sign it is no good due to over heating. I tested the compressor terminals and compared them the results with the Tech Data Sheet found with the unit, to find my compressor was still good. I checked the start capacitor with a capacitor tester, comparing the results with the rating printed on the side of the capacitor and found it to be good. I cleaned the condenser... Read more

Removed the screws, lifted the old lid out of the hinges. Replaced the hinges, set new lid in the hinges and replaced screws. Read more
