Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I had a leak at the water inlet valve   Nicholas C. • Wildwood , MO • May 15, 2020

I had a slow leak at the water inlet valve where the water line from the filter assembly connected to the water inlet valve. I determine that the water line had scratches in it which caused it to not seal. Had to buy the entire reservoir and filter assembly to get that water line. The replacement was smooth. It took about 30 minutes to swap out and it fixed the leak. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water was leaking from the upper part of the refrigerator into the refrigerator compartment   Floyd S. • Waipahu , HI • October 17, 2015

The storage device for water had a cracked fitting so when either the water or ice solenoid was activated the water ran into the compartment. I replaced the storage device (reservoir) once I figured out how to remove the upper cover in the top of the refrigerator. I needed to remove two screws located by the water filter these are the only fasterners needed to be removed, after that you need to pry down on the entire cover which is snapped in place, disconned the electrical connections and your... Ikea Refrigerator Water Reservoir (Dispenser Tank)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11229977

This refrigerator water reservoir stores a small volume of water in the fresh food compartment so the dispenser delivers a steady, chilled flow. Replace a cracked or leaking tank to stop interior leaks and restore normal dispensing performance. What it does:

  • Holds water for the in-door dispenser between uses
  • Lets water cool to refrigerator temperature for consistent dispensing
  • Helps maintain steady flow to reduce pulsing at the dispenser
  • Common symptoms: leaks inside the fridge, slow or no water from the dispenser, visible cracks/bulges in the tank or connected tubing
What's included:
  • One water reservoir
Install notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the household water supply
  • Depressurize the line by dispensing water until the flow stops
  • Remove shelves/drawers to access the reservoir (typically behind the crisper area)
  • Capture residual water, reconnect fittings securely, then restore water/power and check for leaks; purge air by dispensing several glasses of water

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water in refrigerator dispenser smelled like rotten eggs   Dale L. • Phoenix , AZ • July 29, 2018

Replaced water reservoir that had become contaminated with ??? Also had to replace the water filter, because the water contaminated it also. Cost was about $150, for two filters and the reservoir. The first filter was replaced because I did not know the reservoir was contaminated, and no water was coming out of the dispenser. Since the water in the ice maker did not come through the reservoir, there was no smell or contamination there. The new filter enabled water to come through the dispenser,... Read more
