Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud hum/buzz & no heat   Greg S. • Springfield , VA • November 30, 2015

Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. After that, 2 sheet metal panels need to be removed in order to expose the high voltage components for testing. Always discharge the high voltage capacitor first before doing... Read more

Kenmore Magnetron Assembly (Microwave Oven)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X10735

A replacement magnetron assembly that generates the microwave energy used for cooking and reheating. Installs in countertop and over-the-range microwave ovens to restore normal heating performance when the magnetron fails. What it does:

  • Produces high-frequency microwave energy that heats food inside the oven cavity.
  • Commonly replaces a unit when the microwave stops heating or heats very weakly.
  • Can address symptoms like no/poor heating, intermittent heating, or loud humming from the oven during operation.
  • Not a control or capacitor—this part is the microwave-generating tube and works with the oven's HV system.
What's included: One magnetron assembly. Install notes:
  • Always disconnect power and unplug the appliance before starting service.
  • The high-voltage capacitor can retain a dangerous charge; discharge properly.
  • Handle the magnetron carefully; avoid touching terminals or the antenna.
  • Follow OEM instructions and safety guidelines for reassembly and testing.

Kenmore Capacitor (Microwave High-Voltage)
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WB27X10073

This microwave high-voltage capacitor stores and releases energy in the high-voltage circuit to power the magnetron. Replacing a failed capacitor helps restore proper heating and protects other components in the high-voltage system.

  • Works with the transformer and high-voltage diode to supply the magnetron with the required voltage
  • Failure may result in the unit running but not heating
  • Shorted capacitors can blow the internal fuse or trip a breaker; opens may cause loud humming or buzzing
  • Visible swelling or leakage on the capacitor body are common failure signs
What's included: One high-voltage capacitor Install notes:
  • Unplug the microwave; capacitors can retain a dangerous charge even when unplugged—discharge using an appropriate, insulated method before servicing
  • Note wire positions and terminal orientation; transfer any mounting hardware from the original part
  • Mount securely and route wires to avoid pinching

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Microwave oven was not heating   Scott S. • Charlotte , NC • June 20, 2017

I ordered the capacitor, diode, and magnetron in hopes that I would be able to complete the repair using the less expensive parts. I first removed the oven from the wall and then I removed the metal housing to access the internal parts. I discharged the capacitor using a pair of insulated needle nose pliers. Then I changed out the diode and the capacitor and reassembled the unit and tested it. It still did not heat so I disassembled the unit again and replaced the magnetron this time.... Read more
