Kenmore / Sears Washer Dryer Combo Igniter

• No heat or not enough heat
• Takes too long to dry

I used Fixya as an initial source describing my problem. I got two responses which were very helpful. One that the "coils" were probably the problem. Two, that the problem could be the thermostat or a thermistor in the dryer. I verified that AC was coming from the timing control, that both the two terminal and three terminal coils,the igniter and shut off thermostat all had continuity. I looked on Appliance Parts Pros. com and read the problems that others had and replacing the ignitor made sense so I ordered one. It came by UPS within 3 days. I watched the video on how to replace it. Everything went easily, except the screw that held the ignitor in place was a philups head screwdriver and I couldn't get a screwdriver into the small space I had to work in so I went to Harbor Freight Tools and bought an inexpensive 90 degree rachet screwdriver for $2.99 and it worked great.... Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. After looking at the insides again, I suppose it is possible that it was a connection near the burner, but that stuff had remained untouched for 10 years so I still think I made a good assumption.
