11 year old kenmore elite gas drye stopped working initial diagnosis: burner would light but would shut off in 3 or 4 minutes Jay W. • Dallas , TX • April 05, 2015
I used Fixya as an initial source describing my problem. I got two responses which were very helpful. One that the "coils" were probably the problem. Two, that the problem could be the thermostat or a thermistor in the dryer. I verified that AC was coming from the timing control, that both the two terminal and three terminal coils, the igniter and shut off thermostat all had continuity. I then applied AC directly to the coils: the two terminal coil ""clanked" and I interpreted that as the coil...

The Flat Style Dryer Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This essential component is responsible for igniting the gas in the burner, allowing the dryer to heat up and effectively dry your clothes. The igniter heats up to a high temperature to ignite the gas, starting the heating process necessary for drying.
Causes of a bad dryer igniter include wear over time due to repeated heating cycles, electrical failures that prevent the igniter from heating, and physical damage which can cause the igniter to break or malfunction.
Symptoms of a bad dryer igniter include:
- Dryer not heating up despite being turned on
- Gas smell indicating the gas is not being ignited
- No visible glow from the igniter area when the dryer is activated
This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Dryer was not heating Bob H. • Del Mar , CA • January 31, 2015
I checked repair videos on line. Put in my brand and model. You tube had a video how to dis assemble my model. Video made it really easy, I would never have figured it out. Now checked videos from Appliance Parts Pros to troubleshoot the fix. Checked all thermostats and fuses with ohm meter they checked out perfect. Finally checked the igniter found out I did not have resistance. I was also concerned I may need new coils (solenoids). In visiting with customer service he explained...

Gas dryer wasn't heating up Tim C. • Algona , WA • February 21, 2015
I looked on Appliance Parts Pros. com and read the problems that others had and replacing the ignitor made sense so I ordered one. It came by UPS within 3 days. I watched the video on how to replace it. Everything went easily, except the screw that held the ignitor in place was a philups head screwdriver and I couldn't get a screwdriver into the small space I had to work in so I went to Harbor Freight Tools and bought an inexpensive 90 degree rachet screwdriver for $2.99 and it worked great....

The Ignitor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire dryers. It serves as the ignition source safely firing up burners to initiate drying cycles.
Causes usually relate to the continual thermal shock experienced from heating and then rapidly cooling over extended use. As a foundational safeguard, ignitors require OEM replacement when arcing declines.
Symptoms of a faulty ignitor can include:
- The dryer fails to start or stop heating intermittently
- Cycles taking overly long to complete or feel uneven
- Excessive service calls relating to "no heat" troubles
- Risk of uncombusted gas pooling in dryer if ignition falters
This Frigidaire OEM replacement part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and some Kenmore models.

Gas smell in the dryer after a cycle completed no smell outside the dryer (until i opened the door!) Matthew M. • Mcfarland , WI • April 25, 2016
Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. After looking at the insides again, I suppose it is possible that it was a connection near the burner, but that stuff had remained untouched for 10 years so I still think I made a good assumption. I got a new ignitor as well since I was in there, and compared to the valve, it was cheap! I thought I could get in...
