Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Both lugs on refrigerator water filter cap broke apparently due to age induced brittleness would not pull water filter out of refrigerator William F. • Birmingham , AL • June 01, 2016
Replaced filter cap with new one. The minor challenge was to find a method of pulling the filter out of refrigerator (which is normally done by pulling on the filler cap. The filter was recessed to far into the refrigerator for me to be able attach the new cap. I had to find another tactic to remove the filter. The solution was to look at the replacement filter to notice where two slots were located at the end of the filter. I then used a paint can opener (found at most paint stores) to slip...

Ice dispenser was skipping so not dispensing ice Del H. • Midlothian , TX • September 03, 2018
The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed...

The lint catch was broken Misti P. • Spokane , WA • January 18, 2019
This was actually one of the easiest fixes I’ve done. All that was required was to remove 3 screws to remove the broken part. I used a pair of pliers to remove the moisture sensors from the broken part to the new one.

Ice forming in the ice cube bin Bill J. • Scottsdale , AZ • December 13, 2014
I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side Model ED22PWXBW01. A year ago, the ice cubes started freezing together in the rear of the ice bin for no apparent reason. Although the problem started off small, it gradually grew much worse, and finally I could see water dripping out of the ice mold and into the bin during the fill cycle. Re-levelling the refrig didn’t help, nor did adjusting the cube size / fill level.
With guidance from the video, I removed the icemaker from the wall of the freezer. The...

I noticed Ice maker Quit for the third time in 15 years so I decided to buy another Ice maker, I installed it and NO ice still?? Well I went after the other problem thinking if it does not get cold enough maybe ice maker won’t work. I ordered Defrost Switch, Heater and Evaporator Fan just to be safe. I replaced all three, the fan was noisy, the heater OHM’d ok but I replaced it as did the defrost switch, I put it back together, the Freezer got to 0 degrees and the frig got to 38 degrees so I...

Lower ice bin broken Dennis B. • Wichita Falls , TX • March 30, 2020
Easy to remove the metal parts from the old bin. The only problem was that the screw that holds the adapter has red thread locker and screwdriver rounded off the head of the screw. Drilled the screw and heated the screw to loosen the thread locker and used an ease out to remove the screw.

Ice door was intermittent for awhile and finally quit opening ice backed up in the chute and plugged it Keith W. • Las Vegas , NV • February 21, 2016
Reviewed the AppliancePartsPros.com site and decided that the most likely suspect was the ice motor. I ordered one and got it FAST! I removed the water ice tray in the bottom of the Ice/water kiosk which exposed two phillips screws which I removed. The front panel came off by lifting upward and unplugging it. The ice door motor was visible near the top of the opening. I removed the hex head screws with a 1/4" nut driver so the ice door assembly was free. The core control board was hidden...

Fridge was too cold Jennie W. • Nashville , TN • December 10, 2015
My fridge was too cold - everything was freezing solid, even in the produce bins. The air from the diffuser vent was constantly running. After unplugging the fridge and plugging it back in, the diagnostic code on the control panel indicated that the air diffuser was not working. I purchased a new air diffuser, watched the very helpful video that showed how to install it, and replaced the part in about 10 minutes. The next day, I can tell that everything in my fridge has finally begun to thaw...
