Jim November 04, 2012 for Model Number DG05-US3 We have a fisher paykle gas dryer. Inside the door front there is a piece of plastic sticking out that the clothes get caught on. This fixed the problem for a few days. I'm confused as to which parts I need to buy. The front support bearing, the front slide? The front support glide? Do I need 2 glides and 2 slides? Do I only need the slides and glides?
1 Answer Hello Dan, On a GE, the front bearing and glides hold the front of the drum up so it rides level. When they wear down, the drum tilts toward the front which causes the rear of the drum to ride too close to the heating element. Since the heating element WE11M23 tends to droop from the heat it produces, it will contact the rear of the drum and either destroy the heating element, or it will trip the breaker. This also causes more parts to be necessary to bring the unit back to operational status. For a proper repair, you need to replace the rear bearing assembly WE25M40, two white glides WE03X37318, two green glides WE03X37317, and the front bearing WE3M26. While the WD-40 quietened the operation of the unit, you are taking a chance on destroying the heating element, which would only cost you more money to correct the units' operation. Also, while you're in there, just to prevent having to go in again, you should spin the idler pulley WE12X83. If it doesn't spin freely, it should be replaced so you don't have to go through the tear down again. Also check the condition of the felt seal WE09X27634. I checked the front bearing and the slides and all need to be replaced, but it actually seems to slide pretty freely. 1 Answer Hello Brice, If you pull the unit apart again and pull the drum out, I bet you will see some burned spots around the back of the drum. You see, when the drum glides wear out and the drum bearing WE3M26, (the part the glides fit into), wears down, the front of the drum is allowed to ride lower than designed. This causes the drum to be cocked forward. This tilt allows the rear of the drum to be crooked and it can contact the heating element. This will either trip the breaker or, in the worst case scenario, it will allow the heating element to "weld" itself the the drum causing the heating element to require replacement also. Read More...

Dennis February 05, 2012 for Model Number NWXR473GT2WB I replaced the bearing on the back of the drum and at the same time the plastic front drum bearing and (4) slides. Within nine months the plastic front drum bearing has disintegrated and the drum has worn the metal around the door opening paper thin from contact. Might I have done something wrong to promote this? What should I do in terms of repair this time to ensure some longevity for the replacement parts? Thanx
