For Ge Refrigerator Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM9556230)

Jerry for Model Number GE PFCS1NFXCSS

Both the freezer and fresh food sections started to get warm, up to 45 degrees. Noticed small amount of frost around back wall in freezer, unpluged the unit for about 5 minutes, long enough to get the food out of the freezer and plugged it back up. It started runnning and ran for about 10 minutes and then went into defrost mode and defrosted. I saw the water running in the pan under the unit. After which it started cooling and now is at -1 in the freezer and 35 in the refrig. section (over night). I have it set on 0 and 37 degrees. This is the second time this has happened within a 3 month period. I called GE and was told it just needed to be reset by unplugging it for a few minutes. I find it hard to believe that you would need to have to reset a refrig. by unplugging it every so often. I couldn't get the cover of the coil in the freezer to see if it was completely iced up. What do you think I should check at this point? Thanks

Retried Dad for Model Number GSS25JFMBWW

Experiencing frost building up on back wall of the freezer and on the coils when I removed the cover. I removed the defrost heater and it appears to have a loose/broken end because because the meter (digital auto ranging) jumps around to various readings or to infinity depending on pressure/jiggle when I have the probes in contact. So I am waiting for delivery of a replacement heater. I thought I would also check the thermostat and temperature sensor while I am waiting. I would like to check them for continuity. From what I see at least for the thermostat, they run to a harness/block. Would I need to cut the wires to remove them and test them?

Hello Retried Dad, The thermistors can be checked from the control board if you have needle probes for your meter. Standard probes damage the connectors when used. The defrost thermostat can be checked with a resistance meter with power turned off but it will have to be below 20°F to produce a reading.

John for Model Number GE GSH25KGPA

Hello, My refrigerator model #GE GSH25KGPA (GE two sided) has problem of warming the fridge side, but the freezer side is cooling or works fine. I have already changed the defrost thermostat, which worked fine for about a month and then continued the same problem (Freezer cool and fridge warm). I had to turn the fridge off wait 8 hours and turn back on and it works fine for about a month and then goes back to same problem. I wonder if the problem is with temperature sensor or defrost heater. Please help me. Thank you.

Doug, If the compressor runs for about 30 seconds then shuts off then you will want to check the inverter first to make sure that it is not faulty. If it checks ok then the short cycle would most likely be caused by a bad run winding on the compressor which would require the compressor to be replaced. The part number for the compressor is WR87X10111.

Jeremy, You will want to use a 18-22 guage butt connector to install the thermistor in the freezer compartment.

Hello Mikel. You need to blow air through the drain hose and make sure there is no clogs. It sounds like something is clogging the hose up.

Harold, You will want to check the coils in the freezer compartment and make sure that the coils are not impacted with ice. If they are then the thermistor that sits on the evaporator that has most likely failed and would need to be replaced. Also check the damper of the unit and the sensor in the refrigerator to make sure that they are good.
