Rich M for Model Number Kenmore Refrigerator Model # 79576203901

Kenmore Model 79576203901. Ice Maker model AEQ72909602. Ice maker is not dumping after ice is made. The original problem was the fill valve was leaking water and overfilling the tray. The tray froze up and could not dump the ice. I replaced the fill valve and removed ice maker assembly to thaw it out. I reinstalled the ice maker. It now fills to the proper level but has not dumped the tray in 24 hours. Question: If I press the test button on the ice maker should it force the ice to dump if it is working mechanically? I pushed it and it did not dump the ice. Trying to figure out if the problem is the ice maker or the control panel sending it a signal to dump. Thanks in advance for you assistance.

Rich, For this issue the icemaker should cycle when you push the test button and hold it for 5 to 10 seconds. If it does not cycle then this would be a faulty icemaker.

Frank, If the icemaker will not cycle when the test button is hit then this would most likely be caused by a faulty main control board.

Richard, The feeler arm should be in the up position and if it will not cycle when you push the test button then this would be a faulty icemaker.

JP, make sure both fans in the freezer are running, on fan supplies air to the icemaker, the other moves air to the refrigerator compartment. I would also allow at least 24 hrs for the icemaker to get cold enough to close the internal thermostat so that it can cycle.

Hello Roy, The arm not staying up indicates an issue with the icemaker 5989JA0002N that will not be serviceable. The icemaker will have to be replaced.

Hello Russell, There is no spring inside the water inlet valve to aid in its' closure. It is closed by water pressure alone. If insufficient water pressure is supplied to the valve it will close too slowly causing water to be able to "weep" past the seal. This slow weepage will freeze as the water slowly enters the freezing temperatures of the freezer compartment before it can exit the fill tube.

Hello Frank, I'm sorry but these icemakers are not designed with any adjustments that can be made to the water fill.

Richard S for Model Number LFC28768SW

Had issue with water coming out of the back of refrigerator where ice maker tube went into the ice maker. Had repair service company come to house to diagnose and fix issue. Was told that the valve needed to be replaced and that they would comeback to fix valve but charge me $300.00. I asked for part #and that I could fix myself. Ordered part# AJU72911101 from your company on 3/09/2018 and finally received part 04/14/2018. Installed part on 04/15/2018 and same issue has occurred. My question to you is, if freezer tube to ice maker is freezing up then where is defrost line to prevent that issue from occurring? Also is the defrost line power coming from the ice maker connection or is it a separate connection all in all. I'm willing to replace the ice make if that will fix the issue. Thank you, Richard S

1 Answer

Richard, The fill tube for the icemaker will not have a heater on it and in most cases this issue will be caused by an air leak or a water valve that is seeping water into the icemaker. You will also want to make sure that the water pressure is good.

B.R. Marshall for Model Number LFC25776ST

I recently installed an in-line filter in the line to the ice maker. Since then I haven't been able to get the ice maker to make ice. I have confirmed water pressure all the way to the fill valve. I pushed the the test button and it dumped the ice that was in the tray, but it never refilled the tray with water and the arm stopped in the extreme down position. In fact, I can't pull the drawer out without the sensor arm hanging on the ice bucket. When I push the test button now, it just beeps after 4 seconds......no movement or sounds from the ice maker. Am I missing something, or did the ice maker just happen to fail at the same time I installed the water filter?

1 Answer

B.R. Marshall, Based on the description it sounds like the icemaker just happen to fail at the same time that the water filter was installed.
