Questions & Answers

For Lg Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM15977427)

Michael, the ice maker AEQ72909603 can be put into a test mode by pressing the reset button located at the bottom of the ice maker motor. Once it is in test mode, the water valve AJU73753101 can be tested for voltage as it should receive 120VAC once the ice maker has reached the end of the test cycle. If it receives 120VAC, and does not fill the ice maker with water, then the valve has failed. If it does not receive 120VAC, then the most likely failure would be in the ice maker.

Solomon, the fill tube freezing up with ice is going to indicate that the valve 5221JB2006P is leaking by. Unfortunately, this valve has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Bob, You should try to flip the switch on the front of the ice maker to see if it will finish the cycle and return to the home position. Usually replacing the ice maker will fix this problem as long as power is supplied to the part. AEQ72909603

Frustrated for Model Number LFC21776D

Ice maker fills and freezes, just won’t dump. When I press test button it dumps and fills fine. Ice cubes normal size and not overfilling.... manual says that the ice section sensor may need cleaning but no where can I find information on where this sensor is located. I’ve wiped ice maker down several times. Didn’t seem to make a difference. Is the sensor internal? Another article says ice maker won’t dump when it senses the door open. Can’t for the life of me figure out where the door switches are... Do either of these causes sound legit? If so can you tell me where to find the sensor and/or switch? Or does it sound like the ice maker itself is bad. Not to long ago after not working for awhile it started making more ice than it ever did, filling the tray completely full for the first time since we got the refrigerator now nothing freezing but not dumping. Does it sound like the ice maker needs to be replaced?

Frustrated, If the icemaker will cycle when you push the test button but will not cycle on its own then this would be a faulty icemaker that would need to be replaced.

Az for Model Number LFCS25426D

Hello, We have a French door fridge with a bottom freezer and no ice/water on the door. Our Ice maker started clumping ice last week, ( water in ice cube tray). so I defrosted and cleaned the ice maker, (Front 4 cubes were solid and not dumping). We reset it by leaving in off position then dumped ice and started it. the first 1 or 2 trays were good. Then it starting dumping the ice before it was frozen solid (hollow cubes with water). We reset again and set the freezer temp at -1 deg, which was at 0 degs originally. Again the first 1 or so trays were good, but then clumping again with hollow cubes. Will replacing the ice maker solve this type of issue or is it a bigger issue with the overall Fridge? Thank you

1 Answer

AZ, based on the information provided, the issue would be with the ice maker AEQ72909603 not completing a harvest properly by not rotating the tray fully, as well as going into a harvest mode prematurely. This would be controlled in the ice maker motor controller found on the ice maker.

Scott Schmalz for Model Number LFC20770ST

My ice maker is overfilling and casing all ice in one big clump. I have seen numerous times that I emptied the ice container that it appears that some times the ice tray is not completely dropping all the ice from the tray. Then goes to fill and it overflows. Does this ice maker have a mold heater? Does this ice maker have a mold thermostat or maker module that could bad? I have called LG Customer Service and they can not tell me the problems they have had with this model. I was thinking about completely replacing the ice maker but will that solve the problem.? I know that the fill valve is not leaking through. Completely frustrated. Can you please advise. Scott

1 Answer

Scott, No, this ice maker does not have a mold heater, it does have a "mold thermostat/sensor, which tells the control the cubes are frozen and ready to be dispensed into the ice bucket. This Is a "Twist Tray" icemaker, the ice tray sensor sends the signal to the control, the motor runs and twists the try and cubes fall into the bucket. You do need to check that the sensor hasn't been dislodged from the bottom of the ice tray, make sure the ice tray revolves back into a horizontal position then fills to make new cubes. If you're sure the water valve AJU55759303 water valve is operating properly and not "seeping" water, the sensor is in position on the bottom of the ice cube tray, then the issue would be in the control AEQ72909603 Ice Maker Assembly, kit and it would need to be replaced.

Kevin Williams, It does sound to me like an ice maker issue, as the parts that control when it cycles and all are in the ice maker assembly.

Keith, It does sound like a frozen fill tube. Most of the time you can find the fill tube above your ice maker and use something to squirt hot water in until the line clears. The water valve not sealing completely can cause this also. So if it clears and happens again you might need to replace the water valve.
