1 Answer

Dean, With the unit just shutting down on its own, this issue would most likely be caused by a faulty main control board.

Need to replace Dryer Heating Element Assembly on my Samsung Front Loading Dryer. I know that the correct replacement part is DC97-14486A. I have removed the OEM assembly (to make certain I could) and can see that the nibs on the OEM part and the nibs of the replacement assembly DO NOT match. The OEM part only has one flat nib on what appears to be the connection for the Dryer High Limit Thermostat and the replacement assembly has two flat nibs. The original wiring, therefore, cannot be connected using the original wiring. Is there some type of alternative cable available to accommodate this design change? I have taken a photo of the OEM assembly to show the difference in the connecting nibs if that could be useful in answering this question.

1 Answer

Stephanie, The manufacturer does not show a jumper wire to correct the wiring for the heater. This would require you to get some high temp wiring and high temp connectors. The part number for the high temp wire that we have is TJMA0514G and the connectors are part number TJMA02875-1.

Tumbler keeps running, even after display panel is turned off. No power. Only stops when door is open or unplugged. I have tried replacing both pcb board and front panel electrics. Also replaced door switch. None of these have changed anything. Dryer does all functions. It dries properly and timer works fine. Just doesn't stop when done and still runs when turned off. I have not tried replacing element yet, but not sure if that would do it either. Any ideas? Thanks

1 Answer

Jason, You will want to check for a stuck centrifugal switch on the motor. If the switch is stuck then it could cause this but you will also want to check to make sure that there are no damaged wires (which is more likely). It sounds like there is a wire that is shorting to ground and completing the circuit to the motor.

My dryer is running, but not heating properly. I am planning to check the heating element, the thermistor, and the thermal fuse. I am confused because it seems that the heating element assembly contains a thermostat and a thermistor, in addition to the the thermal fuse and thermistor located behind the blower assembly. Do I need to check all of these? The thermal fuse and thermistor videos only address the parts located behind the blower assembly.

1 Answer

Becca, Yes you would test these other thermostats for continuity. If any of them do not have continuity then you will need to replace the parts required.

Hello Brett, You should start the unit momentarily with the front off to see where the smoke is originating. Be aware that lint is highly flammable and should be removed with a vacuum cleaner before re-starting. Also be aware that if the unit is run too long with the cabinet open, since the air flow is disrupted, it can damage the heating element. Sometimes when a new element is energized, the new will "burn off" producing smoke and a distinctive hot smell.

1 Answer

Tom, As for the smell, the element will give off a burning odor as it burns off impurities from the manufacturing process and shipping. As for being hot you will want to check the vent system from the blower wheel to the outside of the home to ensure that it is clean and clear as this can cause overheating.
