Terry for Model Number RS267LBSH/XAA-0000

My water dispenser on the front door does not work anymore. I can hear the click of the switch when depressing the lever with a cup. I replaced the water filter and found that the water pressure was still decent when removing the filter. I suspect a switch is not working or the water inlet valve is not responding to the switch. I saw the replacement part for the water inlet valve but did not see the replacement switch to activate the inlet valve. Are there any other things to check that would affect the lack of water being dispensed? Thank you

Terry, the valve DA62-00914B can be tested for 120VAC when the water dispenser is activated. If there is voltage, the next step would be removing the 5/16" tubing and aiming the port into a cup. When the water dispenser is activated again, if water does not come through the valve then the valve has failed. If water does come through, the tubing would need to be placed back into the valve and the water connection at the door hinge would need to be disconnected. With the tubing from the cabin aimed into a cup, the dispenser would need to be activated again. If water comes through, the tubing in the door has frozen and the door would need to be warmed up with a towel (door may possibly need to be replaced if issue occurs again). If water does not come through, the water reservoir DA97-02650D would need to be inspected for indications of being frozen and thawed out if necessary and the tank heater DA47-00228B would likely be the cause of failure. If the tank is not frozen up, the filter housing DA97-06317A would need to be replaced.

Scott for Model Number RFG237AARS/XAA-0000

The fridge & freezer lose temp, but the temp on the panel says its normal. This does not seem to be a defrost problem. I unplug the unit, plug it back in and the panel shows the actual much warmer temp. Then the fridge cools back down for a day, then repeat. Im guessing this is the main control board issue. There are 2 boards, should I replace both the main and inverter boards? I did let it completely lose all temp when I went out for a week, and it the panel was blinking -2. Thoughts?

Hello Scott, since cycling the power to the ref allows the ref to run and cool correctly it is likely the mainboard is the problem as a power reset just resets the control board, the inverter board just powers the compressor, if it fails there is no cooling at all.

Peter, With the display not responding, make sure that the control is not locked out and if it is not then this will be a display issue.

Readin, If both the upper and lower icemakers have stopped working then it is possible that the main control board could be the issue. A few other things could be that there is a problem with water valves, the icemaker themselves or the temperature is not correct which would cause them to not make ice.

Freezer compartment too warm. Refer compartment too cold. Unit ices up. I had a repairman out, He thawed it out over 2 hours. Told me it would be OK until it froze up again , but needed parts. I told him to order parts and fix it..He said over $4 to $500..I said , "OK, do it. " He said they are only built to last 8 to 10 years, then left and called me next day and said parts are no longer available. I decided to look on internet myself and it seems to me it needs a circuit board and that you have them available. Am I correct?

1 Answer

John L, Based on the information provided the cause of the freezer freezing up could be the defrost heater, terminator/thermostat or the control board. With this said you would need to determine which of the parts was actually causing the problem. The heater & terminator/thermostat for your unit was only available with the purchase of the evaporator assembly, this is the part that the manufacturer has discontinued and is no longer available with no replacement being offered by the manufacturer. This is also the assembly that would have been that expensive as the board is only around $150.00. You need to know which part has actually failed.

Hello Martin, This is usually caused by a stopped up defrost drain which has been a big enough issue that the manufacturer has issued a service bulletin on it. You will need to first use a clothes steamer to clear the defrost drain. You will then need to replace the defrost drain tubes DA97-04046A in the machine compartment. These have been redesigned so they will not stop up. you will then need to position the sensor on the Freon tube on the evaporator coil to the left of the tube. You will then need to install a defrost drain heater 819043. This one is a Whirlpool part but does a much better job because of its' length. Now, the most important part is to see if the evaporator cover is heavy with water. If it is abnormally heavy, it will need to be replaced. I'm sorry but this part DA97-00459U has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. For this reason, all you can do is dry it out as best as you can and make sure there are no cracks in the styrofoam, (if there are seal them completely with silicone sealant). Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

John, it would be recommended that the fans are inspected to identify if they are operating or not. If the fans are operating, the next step would be to test the main control at connection CN73 from pin 1 with a red meter probe to pin 4 with the black meter probe. There should be a 5VDC signal going to the inverter. If there is not, the main control DA92-00420T has failed. If there is, it would be likely that the inverter DA92-00111B has failed if the compressor does not turn on.
