Martin for Model Number RB215LABP The fresh food side is freezing over. Trying to mess with the temperature to get it warmer. The temperature gauge will show correct ish temperatures on the front, but will eventually be completely wrong. Showing 46 on the front, but 30 inside. Is this a thermistor or mainboard issue? Thanks
Answer Hello Martin, This is usually caused by a stopped up defrost drain which has been a big enough issue that the manufacturer has issued a service bulletin on it. You will need to first use a clothes steamer to clear the defrost drain. You will then need to replace the defrost drain tubes DA97-04046A in the machine compartment. These have been redesigned so they will not stop up. you will then need to position the sensor on the Freon tube on the evaporator coil to the left of the tube. You will then need to install a defrost drain heater 819043. This one is a Whirlpool part but does a much better job because of its' length. Now, the most important part is to see if the evaporator cover is heavy with water. If it is abnormally heavy, it will need to be replaced. I'm sorry but this part DA97-00459U has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. For this reason, all you can do is dry it out as best as you can and make sure there are no cracks in the styrofoam, (if there are seal them completely with silicone sealant). Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Saturday, December 19, 2020
