For Whirlpool Refrigerator Air Damper (Part Number: OEM18019983)

Attila for Model Number 10652603100

Hi I have this Kenmore Fridge and the freezer was working an the fridge wasn't. I replaced the defrost thermostat which was bad. Now the Damper door always closes like after 10-15 min and does not open . What do you suggest to replace the damper door or maybe the thermistor? I check the motor in the Damper has continuity the thermistor has on and off. Or maybe I need to change both. I just don't want to put in a new damper and if its that not the problem can I still return it?

Hello Troy. Check the damper WP2216112 and see if it is stuck open and if so, you will need to order the damper assembly. If not, you need to replace the temp control in the unit.

Lynn, When you open the refrigerator door, on the upper left side there is a Phillips head screw, remove this screw and take the cover off. Remove the screw holding the damper cover in place and remove this cover. Close the refrigerator door and open the refrigerator door. Remove the cover of the icemaker assembly. Once removed you will then remove the screw on the right hand side of the icemaker underneath. Once removed, lift the cover off. Push in on the flapper on the left side and pull the icemaker assembly out. Disconnect the wire harness. Once the harness is disconnected there will be 2 screws, 1/4" hex head, that holds the duct assembly to the ceiling of the unit. Once you remove these screws then take the duct out and remove the duct that goes into the side of the damper on the rear right wall. You will then open the refrigerator door and from the freezer side, squeeze inward on the corners of the damper assembly to release. Once released pull out from the refrigerator compartment. Disconnect harness and install in reverse.

The freezer is running at -20f, the ref side at 37f. The evap freezes up. Blocks the drain and water collects and freezes on bottom of freezer compartment. Ran diagnostics. All check out but test 5. Damper runs but doesn't close and evap fan doesnt run on test 5. Parts breakdown doesn't show freezer thermister as does wiring diagram on unit. I have changed the main electronic control board. Same results. Sometimes the over temp alarm activates. Any ideas? Tony

Hello Tony, The thermistor for the freezer is located by the air duct and comes in from the refrigerator side under the diffuser. The thermistor part number for diffuser is WP2188819 and is the same as refrigerator thermistor. The drain through freezing the drain line would normally be a clogged drain. Clear ice and drain line if continues then you will want to make sure that the fan is not coming on during the defrost cycle.

Hello Melanie, You will want to check the dispenser motor to see if it is faulty. You can check this by doing a voltage check. You should have 12 vdc to the motor on the pin 1 and 2. If you have power there then you need to replace the motor WP2252130.

Roger for Model Number Kitchernaid KSRS27ILWH01

Freezer side -20 C / refer side 5-10 C. Digital settings are set at 0 / 36. Diffuser is iced over with some condensation below diffuser on refer side. Vegetables are freezing in the veg crisper and in lower shelves of refer side. Lower refer side vent is open and air current is cold and hand detectable. Meat lowest bin vent stuck in "MEAT" slider selection and iced over. Main computer control board will not respond to "Power" on/off and computer will not allow me to set and enter diagnostic mode after multi[ple disconnects and attempts. Please advise. I believe I need a new main computer board, a defrost thermometer, and possibly a new diffuser.

Hi Roger. Sounds like the diffuser WP2216112 isn't closing. First check for an air leak around the door seals and at the ice door [8201649]. An air leak will cause moisture from the air (humidity) to condense in the diffuser area and it could be blocked open by frost. If no air leak is detected you either have a bad diffuser or, since you have replaced the thermistor, the control 8201658 could be bad. Before you replace the control, unplug the unit for 10 minutes then reconnect to the power supply and see if it resets the microprocessor. Thank You.
