Richard March 24, 2012 Whirlpool direct drive. Transmission locks up at times and smell of burning belt. Replaced belts recently but does not seem to be as tight as it should. Has 2 springs for tension with space for another. ????
1 Answer Richard, A proper model number would be a big help. If you have a belt on your Whirlpool washer, you do not have a "direct drive" washer. There is the possibility that the "wig wag" solenoids or wiring are faulty, and causing the gears to intermittently lock and burn the belt. And the belt adjustment is done by loosening the motor mount bolts and sliding the motor assembly in/out until the belt tension is 1/4 to 3/8 inch deflection. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Frost February 11, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool LA5200XTWO My Whirlpool washer operates normally except it does not always spin. In order to make machine spin I wait for the water to drain, and rotate basket slightly, after which spinning always happens, Sometimes just opening and closing lid will make basket spin.
1 Answer Hello Frost. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the clutch 285785 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps. Read More...
Ray D. January 29, 2012 for Model Number WTW5790STo This washer is about 4 yrs. old. Has worked perfect until recently, when it spins it vibrates, shakes and walks. I have checked the front legs to be sure lock nuts are tight. I have also lubricated self leveling rear legs. I have read this washer has a ring around the spin tub,at the top, filled with liquid to enhance balance when it spins with an out of balance load. Anyone have any thoughts or experience to correct this problem?
1 Answer Hi Ray. You are on the right track. Are the foot pads in good shape to grip the clean floor ? Part # WPW10001130. When you level the unit front to back, and side to side you will lock the front leg nuts under the frame. Then did you reach in from the top and pull the top/center of the control panel and listen if the back legs "pop" out as you lift the rear legs ? Do this a few times to insure they are resetting properly without sticking. Yes, we have experience @ the inner tub top balance ring that can get defective. It is part # WP387240. Remove the agitator and look to see if the inner tub nut needs tightening part # WP21366. Thank You. Read More...
William C January 25, 2012 for Model Number WTW5200SQO This washer works fine when the water level is set to the low position. When the medium or high water level is selected it fills properly but it will not agitate but will spin and drain when the time comes. I'm thinking water level switch (Pressure switch)?
1 Answer William, As long as the drain hose is 38 inches high from the floor, the machine should hold the water and agitate. Check and make sure the air dome hose WP353244 is not clogged or kinked or twisted, then replace the water level switch W10339334. Thanks and Good Luck Read More...

Jack H December 27, 2011 for Model Number GSX9885JQ0 Whirlpool Gold Washer does not complete cycle and either F4 or F3 error code appears. How can I find out what causes these error codes - and how to fix it? Thanks, Jack
1 Answer Jack, Here's the information you need : DISPLAY EXPLANATION AND RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE F3 LID SWITCH FAILURE “F3” flashes and cycle signal beeps continuously if the lid was NOT opened after cycle was completed. The electronic board must detect that PAUSE/CANCEL was pressed during a cycle or the lid was opened at least once at the end of any cycle. This is continually tested to ensure proper lid switch operation. If “F3” is flashing, check continuity of the lid switch. With the lid closed, lid switch contacts should be closed. – With the lid open, lid switch contacts should be open. – If the lid switch is failed, replace it. – If the lid switch is good, replace the control board. NOTE: Beeper will sound continuously while error code is flashing. F4 RECIRCULATE PRESSURE SWITCH FAILURE “F4” flashes and the cycle signal beeps continuously when the recirculate pressure switch is not working properly during the Catalyst, Wash or Soak cycle. If “F4” is flashing, check the following: – Plugged recirculate hose (black hose). – Plugged or disconnected air tube (clear tube). Wires to the recirculate pressure switch disconnected or not connected correctly. – Failed recirculate pressure switch. Switch (black wire, tan wire) contacts should be open with pressure applied and closed with no pressure. NOTE: Beeper will sound continuously while error code is flashing. You should find your technical data/information sheet attached to the inside of the cabinet front panel or inside the control panel assembly, if you wish to conduct other tests and diagnostics.
