The Balance Ring is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This part maintains the stability of the washer drum during the spin cycle. It contains liquid that helps balance the load, minimizing vibrations and noise while ensuring smooth operation.

Causes of a bad balance ring can include general wear and tear, exposure to heavy or unbalanced loads, or physical damage.

Symptoms of a bad balance ring include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the spin cycle
  • Loud banging noises
  • Washer moving or walking during operation
  • Uneven or off-balance loads

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Jt for Model Number Whirlpool/kenmore 11020912990 washer

his is a follow question to this one previously asked. :Washer started running out of balance on spin cycle. Machine is level, the 4 springs, pressure plate and both sets of pads (all 8) have been replaced. The balance ring has no cracks/leaks and contains 50% solution fill. The rear spring connected to the base is intact, and not rusted. After replacing all these parts, machine is only slightly better during the spin cycle, but still vibrating too much and shaking the floor and walls. Any other repair options would be appreciated. I ran the machine with lid open and it appears the top of the tub is shifting back and forth more than the base during the spin. Drive block is in good condition. Thank you. My follow up question: The machine still shakes on the spin cycle even on a level cement floor, so I replaced the drive block, and still have no improvement. The only part I can think of that I have not replaced is the balance ring which has no leaks and is 50% full. Think that may be worth a try? Thank you, JT

JT, Your washer tub doesn't have a balance ring ? it has a "complete" tub W10389328 / W10389328 . You may also need to recheck the base assembly 285771 / 285771 use a short straight edge tool and make sure the uprights and the lower and upper frames aren't bent or distorted.

JT, Try moving the washer to another room or outside on the patio or driveway. Then restore power make sure it's level and the legs are locked in place, and start the washer in the final spin and drain cycle and check for any excess vibration. Based on your post information " but still vibrating too much and shaking the floor and walls" would indicate a problem in the floor/flooring, Everything in the suspension system and tub sounds proper / normal. Moving the machine to a more solid footing will help determine if the problem is in the washer or the floor/flooring.

David for Model Number GTWN4250D0WS

My GE washer is 3.5 years old. I've noticed the last few months during spin cycle it frequently gets off balance...usually when it kicks into high speed. After adjusting clothes it stays balanced, but I never used to have to adjust any clothing. All 4 dampening straps are fine. Front and back suspension rods are fine and the springs are not completely bottomed out. When the tub goes off balance it really bangs against the sides of the washing machine housing. What should I check next?

1 Answer

David, You will want to check the balance ring on top of the inner tub to make sure that the balance ring is not damaged and still has solution in it. It sounds like the clothes are getting bunched up on one side of the unit which would cause this.

Shawn, When you rotate the inner tub you should hear a solution where it sounds like there is water in the unit. This would be the solution in the balance ring.

Bob for Model Number 110.22992103

I have a serious out of balance trouble,I removed the bal ring and when held vertically it appears to be appx half full is this the proper amt of fluid, there does not appear to be any leaks. The counter bal spring appears to be in good shape as the machine in not in a moist environment an was connected on both ends. The base pads seem ok however a little powder on base surface, the plate pads also look fine. Do you think I should change out these parts or am I missing something else to ck. Note the house floor is level and very stable.thanks

1 Answer

Bob, The pads on the skateplate would most likely be the cause of the unit getting off balance. It does not sound like the balance ring or springs will be the issue.

Hello Eddie. The balance ring will only snap into place one way. The clips point down toward basket.
