For Whirlpool Washer Agitator Assembly (Part Number: OEM9283386)

Hello Paul, This sounds like you may have gotten the cam driven bearing or the cam itself mis-installed. I would dis-assemble it one more time to insure that the items are placed in the correct order and not upside down. Please don't take this the wrong way as experienced technicians make the mistake and have to go through the same process. Also the parts you put in should have looked like the ones you removed. It is possible to have the wrong kit.

Hello Myra. It sounds like the agitator bolt is cross threaded. If installed properly, it will compress the two pieces of the agitator 285565 and lock the tabs into place. You will need to try to hold the agitator and remove the bolt, and see if you can get it to thread into the tramsmission correctly. Hope this helps.
