This dishwasher overfill control float mounts in the tub floor and rises with the water level to trip the float switch and stop filling. Replacing a warped or stuck float restores proper fill control and helps prevent leaks. What it does:

  • Monitors tub water level and actuates the float switch to shut off the inlet valve
  • Helps prevent overfilling and water leaking from the door
  • Common symptoms of a faulty float include no fill, continuous filling/overfilling, or inconsistent water level
What's included:
  • Float and retainer
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off the water supply before servicing
  • Remove the lower rack; lift out the old float
  • Access beneath the tub may be required to release/install the retainer
  • Ensure the float stem engages the switch lever and moves freely; test-fill and check for leaks

Hello Dave, if you can only get the water to stop coming in by shutting off your water source you might have a defective water valve part number WPW10158389. Thanks!

Michael, There does not appear to be a seal in this area and you will want to check the float to make sure that it is moving freely and not getting hung up causing the unit to overfill with water. If this is happening then the float would need to be replaced.

Tony for Model Number DU1055XTVS1

The dishwasher fills then as soon as the washer action starts everything stops and all indicator panel lights go out. If I hold the float switch up for a few seconds after the action starts and let go the washer continues running until it fills again then the same thing happens unless I hold the float up for a few seconds. I tested the float switch and my meter shows it to be good. Could it be that there's not enough water getting into the dishwasher? There seems to be enough water to initially make the switch but when the action starts I can feel the float bounce down loosing the switch connection. Is there a way I can see this? Thanks

Tony, You will want to check the float itself to make sure that it is not holding water in it. If it is then it can cause this issue to occur. The other thing would be an issue of an intermittent float switch that could cause this issue.

Dennis, Yes it is very possible that the water inlet valve could be cracked if it is dripping all the time. You will also want to make sure that the water supply is not what is leaking instead of the valve. If it is leaking only when the unit is running then you will want to check to make sure that the spray arms are not clogged or cracked. This would cause the water to create a wave action that would ripple out of the unit.

Cory, This could be a water level issue and the water level for this unit should be located just below the heating element. This could also be a circulation pump issue.

Dennis, There are several possibilities, your first check needs to be the installation, make sure the dishwasher is level in both directions, properly secured to the cabinet and the door and tub are properly aligned. Remove the lower kick plate and lower access panel and check that there are no loose connections at the fill valve connections, and run the dishwasher with a load to determine the leak location.

Hello Teresa. Remove the drain hose from the unit and blow through the drain hose to see if it is clear. Do not remove it from the sink when doing this. If so, you will test for power going to the drain pump. If there is power there and the pump does not run, then it is a pump issue. If there is no power there, you will need to replace the control on the unit.

Hello Greg, Make sure the little holes in the spray arms are not clogged. If they get stopped up, as the spray arms circulate, they will put a "wave" in the water which will cause the water to jump the front of the tub. Also, when you start the unit and let it circulate the water for a couple of minutes, you should check for soap suds on the water. This is an indication of a possible over soap situation which can cause the unit to drip from the front. If these tests produce no result the water valve is probably not closing as designed and you are getting a slight overfill which can cause the same situation. If you have any way to check the water pressure supplied to the valve, less than 30 p.s.i. is bad and the water supply should be checked by a plumber.

Hello Greg, This will be a split sprayarm, a clogged sprayarm, or and oversoap situation. It's easy to look to see if the sprayarm is clogged or separated at the seam. To check for the possibility of an oversoap situation, start the unit and let it circulate the water for at least two minutes. Open the door and note the suds on top of the water. If suds are present, the last load was rinsed in soapy water and you found your problem.
