Tom June 29, 2018 for Model Number K5SS I have a K5SS KitchenAid mixer that only operates on the higher speed settings. A little research indicated that the problem was likely a faulty phase control board. I replaced the board and plugged in the mixer for a test run. I failed to notice that the mixer was turned on when I plugged it in. Immediately upon plugging it in, there was a loud electrical SNAP that tripped the GFCI in outlet. I reset the GFCI and the mixer operates as before, so I suspect the phase control board was damaged again. I removed the rear cover and could not detect any burned or scorched electric components that would indicate a short. Any idea what could be causing this problem?
1 Answer Tom, The other thing that could also cause this would be a governor that is faulty and would need replaced but could be that the phase board was damaged. Read More...
James February 01, 2018 for Model Number K45SS I have replaced the governor and speed control board. At stir, 2 and 4 position the mixer runs fast and slow. At 6, 8 and 10 it runs at a consistent speed and not slow and fast. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.
1 Answer James, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty phase control board part number WPW10325124. Read More...
Valerie C January 30, 2018 This new phase control board is too long for my K5SS, the original one marked 915122-001 2942821 05891 Ranco Mexico is a shorter version. HELP
1 Answer Valerie, According to the manufacturer the 120 vac version of the phase control board would be WPW10325124 and the 240 vac phase board would be W11174552. You will want to make sure that you have the correct one but unfortunately this is the only info that we have on the phase board. Read More...
Sarah Irwin November 11, 2017 for Model Number Kitchenaid K45 I hope someone can help me. I am wondering where I could buy an original Resistor and Lead Sleeves Sub-Assembly ( part number B-89759-1 or B-89759-2) for my Kitchenaid K45 Mixer. And if that is not avaiable can it part be replaced with something else and if so what part do I need to get or order. If possible could I get a part number as well. One more question can you help me also find the benealine 930-2 grease that is suppose to go in it as well. Thank You So Much
1 Answer Sarah, Unfortunately it appears that these parts have been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. Read More...
Steve May 04, 2017 for Model Number K5SS My k5ss stand mixer used to have have pulsing and fast speed at the stir position and seemed pos 6,8,10 were all the same. I replaced the speed governor, speed control plate and worm gear. It seams to have a different speed now at ea position, but it still pulses at pos 2 &4.
1 Answer Hello Steve. You will need to adjust the 2 speed screws on the back of the mixer until the unit works properly at all speeds. These are very picky and fine tuning is necessary for these units. Read More...
Brett April 07, 2017 for Model Number KSM5BBU After several years of use, my mixer began only operating at the highest speed (stir thru 8 does nothing). After reading several posts, it became obvious that I needed to replace the phase control board. I followed the video exactly after receiving the part, but I ended up with the exact same issue. I tried unscrewing the top screws as stated in video, but that still gave me nothing on the lower speeds. What else could it be? I have a volt meter but not sure how or what to test.
1 Answer Hello Brett, If the speed control plate and lever are assembled correctly, we believe you should call in for a replacement phase control WPW10325124 as is seems to be defective. Read More...
Mike January 11, 2017 for Model Number K45SS I ordered the Phase Control Board for my Kitchenaid K45SS Mixer. Your installation video (which is very good by the way) talks about some white grease (Thermally Conductive Compound) is needed for the installation. Do you know where I can purchase that item?
1 Answer Mike, This would be a dielectric grease that you would be able to pick up at like an auto store or a electrical supply company. It is not necessary to use this but could if you wanted. Read More...
Garrett December 31, 2015 for Model Number KSM150PSCG Hello. My Kitchenaid stand mixer (KSM150PSCG, Artisan 325 W) is not able to run at low speed ('Stir' through 6 are all the same (medium) speed, 8 and 10 appear accurate). I have re positioned the speed control plate, however this has not been able to fix the problem. The speed control plate is getting 120 V. At 'Stir', 2, 4, and 6 position the motor (white and red wires) is getting 70 V. At position 8 the motor is getting 80 V. At position 10 the motor is getting 120 V. I assume the phase control board is bad, but is there a way to check this (or maybe what I have done above is the way...)? The mixer is brand new and has had this issue since its first use. We have had it less than 2 months.
1 Answer Garrett, If the mixer is brand new it would be recommended to check with the manufacturer about warranty but does sound like the phase control board is faulty. The way that you tested would be correct. Read More...

Jill E February 04, 2015 for Model Number K5-A Mixer has been running fine for years. Now it runs okay on low speeds for a short time, but, after that, it makes intermittent groaning noises and the speed becomes irregular. The mixer feels and smells hot. The motor brushes are okay. Planetary is well-greased and worm-drive gear appears okay. Would like to replace these two parts. Do you have them? Or is there a substitute? Mounting Plate Assy Part Number: C-18195 Resistor And Lead Sleeves Sub-Assy. Part Number: B-89759-1 Thank you very much, Jill E
1 Answer Jill, While the phase board could be the issue it would sound more likely that the motor is straining. You will want to check all the gears to make sure that there is no damage to any of them. Read More...
