Mathew for Model Number Amana ARSE66ZBC

The icemaker has stopped making ice. I hear the micro switch on the swing arm clicking normally when the arm is moved from side to side. The tray is empty of any water and the water filter and water dispenser are working fine so water is available. I don not hear the water solenoid opening to allow water into the ice maker. I can mark the camshaft today and watch if this goes into a normal cycle without water or I could manually fill the tray and see if it works. What are your thoughts?

Hello Mathew, You can use a jumper wire on the icemaker module from T to H to get the icemaker to cycle. When you pull the cover off icemaker look at the pins inside the large wheel to make sure that they are not broken. Also check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen coming to icemaker. You can also check the back of the motor module by pulling the 3 phillips screws out to see if there are any burnt contacts on the motor module.

Hello Don, It may be the icemaker assembly that is leaking rather than the fill tube or water fill. The icemaker has a coating over it which you can check to see if it is deteriorating. If it is then you would want to replace the icemaker 4317943. If you are getting slow water fill it may be the water filter that is getting clogged causing low pressure.

Hello, The ice maker has no such feature. It has an on/off switch that prevents the ice bin from overfilling and a thermostat that keeps the ice maker from cycling before the cubes are frozen. Other than that, the only other safety feature is the in-line fuse in the harness to the ice maker. It is designed to prevent a fire should the ice makers' electrical components become shorted.

Hello Ardele, You will want to check to see if your compressor is running. You can do this by putting an amp meter on the blue wire coming to the compressor. If you do not have amp draw then your compressor is not running. Keeping amp meter on compressor, watch the amp meter and wait to see if you get a spike of power to the compressor. Note what the amp draw is at this spike. Above 8.5 amps then you have a bad compressor W10160407 and it would need to be replace.

Hello Fitz, If this is a whirlpool unit with icemaker on the side wall then there are 2 screws at top middle of icemaker you would loosen and one at the bottom that you would take out. This would be the same for maytag. The maytag may not have to 2 at the top but once lower is out the you would rotate icemaker bottom inward toward the middle of the freezer compartment.

Hello Charles, The unit will take a period of time to run. The thermostat on the icemaker has to reach a certain temperature before it will cycle. Also depending on model if the light switch is open it will not cycle. You can jump start the icemaker by pulling the front cover off and putting a jumper wire into t and h terminals. This will kick start the icemaker to cycle but you may have to hold the light switch for it to work. Also make sure that you plugged the harness into the connector.

Hello Wally, It may be the water valve is not fully seating causing water to seep into the icemaker. It could also be a bad icemaker module. You can pull the tubing for the icemaker out and cycle the icemaker. See if the water valve is letting water in even though the icemaker is stops calling for ice. If this is the case then you would need a water valve 4318046. If not then a new motor module W10190935.

Lonnie for Model Number jcd2389ges jenn-air

If I use a jumper on T and H, the ice maker goes through a full cycle --- no problem. All works fine. Without the jumper (normal mode), after the water freezes, I can hear and see the gear moving for about 1/2 inch and then moves only very slightly --- but, that is all. IF I use a hair dryer to heat it, it completes the cycle. I seems to me that something is not turning the heater on. If you agree, how do I test that and what part do I need? Or, what else can I test?

1 Answer

Hello Lonnie, If you take the cover and control module off of the icemaker, you can test the two pins which are the farthest away from each other on the mold to see if you have continuity. This is you heater. If the heater is bad then you would need to replace the icemaker mold. Also check the water fill to see if you are getting too much water into the icemaker. If this happens then the module will not turn enough to activate the heater circuit. If this is the case there is an adjustment screw on the side of the icemaker module that you can adjust the water fill. If heater is bad you will have to replace the icemaker assembly D7824706Q
