Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Replacement Icemaker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

1 Answer

Hello Joe, I'm assuming that the unit you bought the ice maker for has no ice maker in it now. If this is the case, you should have bought an ice maker kit W11700559 instead of a replacement ice maker. The ice maker kit includes the parts necessary to install an ice maker in a unit that previously had no ice maker. The water supply line attaches to the water valve at the rear of the unit and the wiring should be present already and only needs connected, (one two wire jack). The water line goes up the rear of the unit and connects to the fill tube which goes through the rear freezer all to the fill cup on the ice maker assembly. The ice maker screws to the wall and the wires from the ice maker plug into a connector that is behind a plastic cover that says something to the effect of "Ice Maker Ready". The ice maker kit even comes with an ice bucket for the ice to drop into as the ice maker harvests it.

ANOTHER FOLLOW UP. If I need to "test for power to the water valve when the icemaker cycles" how will I know when it's ready to cycle? If I sit there waiting for it to cycle I might be there a long time & what if I miss it when it cycles? Is there a way to make it cycle? Plz help. Thanks PREVIOUS QUESTION My model MZD2766GEB Maytag refrigerator isn't making ice. The unit is turning to flip the ice out, it just isn't putting water into the ice tray. It's not leaking water anywhere and the water dispenser in the door is working fine. How do I check to see if the icemaker needs replaced or if it's the water valve etc? Thanks, Jack

Hello Jack. You remove the cover and use a jumper wire. Insert it into the holes on the module T and H then wait until the will turns about 1/4 round. Pull out the wire and test for power.

This is a follow up to an earlier question. My ice maker isn't getting water to make ice. Is it true that since the water dispenser in the door is getting water, the water valve is good and I don't need to check it? EARLIER QUESTION My model MZD2766GEB Maytag refrigerator isn't making ice. The unit is turning to flip the ice out, it just isn't putting water into the ice tray. It's not leaking water anywhere and the water dispenser in the door is working fine. How do I check to see if the icemaker needs replaced or if it's the water valve etc? Thanks, Jack

Hello Jack. No, there are 2 solenoids on the water valve and one can work and the other one be bad.

Hello Tim, This sounds like an insufficient water fill to me. If the cubes seem small, this is the cause. You either have low water pressure to the unit, or the water valve is failing. These are the most probable causes. The issue can be in the motor module, (ice maker control), as there are mechanical points that have to make electrical contact which could be part of the issue.

Hello Alex. Check and make sure the fill tube is not frozen over and causing the issue with the unit. If the icemaker is new, and the fill tube is not frozen, it sounds like the water valve is bad and will need to be replaced.

Hello Jerry, If the harvest fingers are not even contacting the ice, the problem is either that the temperature in the freezer isn't dropping below the 20°F that is required to satisfy the ice maker thermostat or the ice maker thermostat has failed. If t harvest fingers are rotated around and are against the ice, the ice mold heater has failed.Either of the last two issues I mentioned can be solved by replacing the ice maker D7824706Q. If the first is the issue, you need to clean the coils and check for a frost build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is a frost build-up, you have a defrost issue. Let us know if we can assist further. We need to know what you find so we can follow a logical diagnostic procedure.

Hello Timothy, This sounds to me like an insufficient fill of the ice maker. When the cubes are too small, they don't drop properly. They will hang up in the harvest fingers and cause stoppages. I suggest to check the water pressure to the unit and if that's good, replace the water inlet valve. I cannot suggest part numbers without a model number, so if you require further assistance, please post with a model number because the model number denotes the exact part for the specific model. This enables us to quote you the correct part.
