Jack June 01, 2020 for Model Number WGD5300SQ0 My dryer turns on but does not heat, the timer doesn't advance on some settings?
1 Answer Jack, it is recommended that the dryer thermal fuse WP3392519 is tested for continuity to identify if it has failed. This fuse can impact the ability to heat as well as cycle the timer motor. If it does not have continuity, it would also be recommended that the ventilation and duct are cleared of any lint build-up. Dennis October 29, 2016 for Model Number Whirlpool LTG6234001 My dryer spins and heats up for about 10-15 minutes then stops heating or cools down also the timer does not advance in Auotmatic perm press setting I cleaned the lint trap and removed the panel and vacuumed out lower section and the blower motor I also checked the outside exhaust vent and the airflow seems ok it's not super high pressure but it seems sufficient enough. It keeps the flap/vent open. In an earlier response you indicated it could either be one of three things. Bad gas valve coil or bad gas valve or restricted exhaust. Is there any way to narrow down if it is a bad gas valve coil or bad gas valve? Replacing the gas valve looks cumbersome to myself. The gas coil replacement looks easy enough
1 Answer Dennis, You can test the coils using a multi-meter. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. If the coil checks ok then the valve would be the issue. Read More...
Kathleen September 22, 2016 for Model Number LE5800XSW3 My whirlpool electric dryer stopped heating but kept running. I have tested continuity and all checks out fine with heating element, thermal fuse, thermostat, etc. There is also a very distinct burn or plastic smell at the timer. Can I assume the timer is the issue? I'm not finding a clear explanation to check continuity on it. There was a bit of discoloration on the wire coming off high limit thermostat (which connects to the heating element). Thoughts?
1 Answer Hello Kathleen. You will need to test for power from the timer to the heater. If it is not there, you will need to replace the timer on the unit. Read More...
Lls1000 August 04, 2013 for Model Number 110.98762790 The dryer on this Kenmore laundry system operates only on the low heat setting. Nothing at all happens in Air Dry, Timed, or Normal high heat settings when door is closed and we Push to Start. What part needs to be replaced?
1 Answer LLS1000, You will want to check the cycling thermostat to make sure that it is within range. The 2 outer terminals are what you will want to check. The cycling thermostat is located normally on the blower housing and you will want to remove the 2 wires which should be purple or violet. The resistance should be between 3240 and 3860 ohms. You will also want to check your venting to make sure that it is not restricted from the blower wheel to the outside of the home. Read More...
Charles J. April 07, 2013 for Model Number LGR6620PTO The dryer work but the timer doesn't advance. You must watch the dryer so if doesn't over dry the clothes. Is the timer the problem or something else? Thanks, If the timer is bad I will order one from you once again Thanks,
1 Answer Hello Charles J. Check for power to the timer motor. If there is power there, and the timer does not advance, you will need to order and replace the timer on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Kristina January 20, 2013 for Model Number LGR6620PQ0 At first our unit wouldn't work on the the energy efficient side, the dial never moved. Then, the unit wouldn't start but ended up starting again. Now, the unit isn't generating heat whatsoever and after running it for a while and opening it to see if it was creating heat, there is a distinct smell of natural gas. Would could be wrong that heat isn't being generated and we smell gas? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Kristina, You will want to check the ignitor to make sure that you are getting 3.2 to 3.6 amps. Also check to make sure that the ignitor is positioned properly in front of the burner. If the ignitor is not seated taht is would cause the problem. Read More...
Chad January 19, 2013 for Model Number LGR4600PQ1 Timer does not advance but dryer will turn on and run. It does heat initially but each time after that it will glow and then shut off just before igniting. It keeps doing that over and over. Is a bad timer related in any way to another part being bad or is the timer needing replaced?
1 Answer Hello Chad, You either have a bad coil 279834 on the gas valve or a bad gas valve WP8318277. When the timer isn't moving on an automatic cycle, this is an indication of a restricted exhaust duct. Read More...
Joshua January 08, 2013 for Model Number LGR6620PQ0 Hello. At first the timer knob wouldn't move on the energy efficient side (left) and the dryer would just run until someone manually opened the door. We figured out we could but it on the timer side (right) and the dryer timer would move and the dryer operated during the set time. As of tonight, the dryer will not turn on at all. The start button doesn't seem to start the unit. Could this all be attributed to the timer? Thanks!!!
1 Answer Hello Joshua, You may want to check the thermal fuses WP3392519 to make sure that they are not blown. Check continuity on the exhaust thermal fuse. Also check venting from blower to the outside of home to make sure that it is not clogged. A clogged vent can cause a thermal fuse to blow and cause unit to not start. A clogged vent could also cause the energy effiecient side not to work due to no air flow. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Sharon May 22, 2012 for Model Number lgr5620kq1 My dryer ignites, 15-20 mins of running on high heat, the flame goes out, and air drys. The timer knob doesn't move closer to off position, and when I manually shut dryer off and try to reignite, it glows, but will not ignite again. After a 15 minute wait, I try again and it relights. The timer knob has turned off the dryer one of four times. If not, the dryer runs continuously, with no heat after initial first 15-20 minutes of starting.
1 Answer Hello Sharon. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the coils 279834 may be bad in the unit and will need to be replaced. Check the coils 279834 and see if they test good. You can test the coils using a multi-meter MA-DM1. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. Test the coils after running the dryer for about 10 minutes. Michael January 22, 2012 for Model Number wgd5300sq0 my dryer has no heat but will run thru the cycle and than will get stuck on cool down and will just keep running.
1 Answer Michael, With no heat and no advance in the "cool down" the first place to check is the thermal fuses and thermostats WP3392519 and W11050897 They should all have a "closed" circuit at room temperature. Don't start at the timer, until you've checked the heating system components. Here's some meter usage information if you need it.
