For Whirlpool Washer Timer Control (Part Number: OEM18018600)

Donna for Model Number LAT8506AAE

The washer will fill. But to get it to move to next cycle you can move the belt and it works but the next cycle you have to move the bell the other way. We replaced the belts and the lid switch. A repair man told me that I need a new motor but i do not think He but I could not buy the the switch any more but he is wrong the motor comes with the part on top that he was calling a switch. Any suggestions other than go buy a new washer? He told me the motor tested good but it was weak! I think it could be the timer?

Jen, If the water fills but will not do anything else then check the lid switch to make sure that it is good. If this checks ok then you will want to check the motor to make sure that it is getting power to it. If it does then the motor would be the issue.

Cheryl, You will want to check the motor to make sure that it is getting power from the timer. If the motor is not getting power then check the lid switch and if the lid switch checks ok then the timer would be the issue.

Bret, It may not be either of those parts. Your first check should be at the lid switch assembly WP22001682 or the lid if the assembly is out of adjustment or if one of the switches is faulty, the washer won't spin and drain. Check there first, if all's OK then replace the timer WP22001025.

The washer will only start agitating after filling if I pull hard and hold the timer for a few seconds to a few minutes. It will continue along in the cycle and randomly stop. When I go pull on the timer again, it will start back up but I always have to hold it for 30 seconds or so. When I let go, the washer stops. It's getting more and more frequent that it stop -- at first it was just in the agitation section and now it's in the spin cycle too. Does this sound like the timer is the problem?

Jeff, The part number for the gear oil is 6-0560800 Based on your post, the issue would be in the timer WP22001025, if the motor operates in one direction, it's 99%, the motor is not the issue. Basically To pin point the issue in the timer you'd unplug the power cord, set the timer dial to a wash cycle, pull out the knob and disconnect the multi plug connector. Then you'd check for closed circuits between the contacts on the timer based on the wiring diagram and timer cam or cycle chart. But first, have you checked the lid switches and fuse. Yes, if the timer does not solve the issue, you can return the part for a refund, but you'll be responsible for the return shipping. Thanks
