  • Advances through each stage of the selected cycle
  • Routes power to the motor, water valves, and pump as required
  • Common symptoms: cycle won't advance, stops mid-cycle, runs continuously, won't start, or won't spin
What's included: 1 timer assembly Install notes:
  • Unplug the washer and turn off water supply before servicing
  • Open the control panel; remove knob/dial and mounting to free the old timer
  • Move wires one at a time from the old timer to the new timer to match positions
  • Secure the new timer, reassemble the console, restore power, and test a normal cycle

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Timer (Cycle Control) (Part Number: OEM18018603)

1 Answer

Lee, your first check needs to be the WP22001682 / WP22001682 lid switch assembly. If a switch fails, or the fuse "blows" this breaks the circuit to the fill valve, and the washer won't fill and agitate, but it will spin and drain. If the switch assembly and wiring are OK, then replace the timer WP22001026/22001026.

Jim, There's about a 1 or 2% possibility that the motor could be the issue, since the washer motor will run in the spin direction, it should run in the agitate direction. The first check should be at the timer, remove the wiring harness block and check the small brass contact terminals, to see if there are any that are bent, twisted, etc. then check the individual wires in the wiring block to make sure they aren't loose, twisted, bent, etc. You might want to use a small flat blade screwdriver and press down/in on each wire, once the harness block is installed and locked in place, to make sure the wires are seated and making proper contact with the terminals.

My Maytag washer, like some other people with questions, only works properly on the delicate cycle and only fills with water on the other cycles. Unlike others however I can sometimes get the permanent press rinse and spin functions to work if I manually move the timer dial...but not always. Furthermore I can not get it to agitate at all on either regular or permanent press. (So basically no agitate, rinse, and spin on normal and no agitate, sometimes manually rinse, and sometimes manually spin on permanent press). Is the timer bad or the motor?

Gp, With the unit working on some cycles but not others then this would most likely be an issue with the timer of the unit.

Karen for Model Number LAT9614AAE

My washing machine from 1994 stopped working after the tub would fill with water. I replaced the Lid Switch assembly and Timer and I am still having problems. The Timer is making noises and will not advance. I can manually advance the timer to the next setting to finish the load. All functions work fine as long as I manually advance the timer. The new timer is making noises the old timer did not. Both timers would not advance? What do you suggest I do now. I bought both parts from you.

Hello Ken. To remove the knob from the timer, you will pop out the center cap of the timer knob and remove the small clip inside the knob. Then pull off the knob and the timer skirt. Now you can access and remove the timer from the unit.

Dave, The timer would not be the most likely cause for this issue and would be more likely that the motor is overheating causing the unit to shut off. Look for something causing a strain on the motor.

Margie, The WP22001026 is the only part you will need to replace the timer. The 22001515 Timer Motor, is a component that is already installed on the new replacement timer. The timer motor 22001515 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available as a repair part.

Hello Adam, You need to check from the "M" terminal on the motor, (where the Yellow wire connects), to the terminal that the Orange wire connects to while the power is off and you are manually activating the switch on the motor. This will show you the resistance of the slow speed windings of the motor. If it gives you a resistance reading, the timer WP22001026 is the problem. If not, the motor 12002353 is the issue.
