For Whirlpool Washer Timer (Part Number: OEM18018966)

Scott H. for Model Number MAH4000AWW

Hello everyone, I had an issue a while back with the washer not spinning and making strange noises. I determined, with your sites help, that I had a missing phase issue. I replace the motor and motor control board and also replaced the wax motor, after reading your notes. Everything worked great for a week or so and now I have an intermittent issue with no spin. Sometimes I can select spin on a different cycle and it will go and sometimes I have to make quite a few attempts. I am wondering, do you think I have an issue with the timer or could it be that the wax motor is intermittently not quite making it far enough over to make the last microswitch? D you ever see weak wax motors come up after an installation?

Scott, You're pretty much on target, It's not likely to be a timer problem, and if the wax motor isn't installed properly and shifts around in the assembly, the spin enable switch WP22002162 wont make contact and the washer wont spin. Check and make sure the latch spring is exerting enough pressure on the wax motor to hold it in place tightly. That's the place to start.

Freddy K for Model Number MAH5500AWW

Have a Maytag MAH5500AWW. Replaced bearings and seal. While I was it, also replaced door boot and 80 watt drain pump. Sometime ago the washer had the control board and wax motor replaced, because of the usual R11 being burnt by the old brown tip wax motor. Anyway, reassembled and did test loads. On either the Whites or Colours settings, washer fills, tumbles and does the 1st drain. 2nd and 3rd drains don't happen. Instead the recirculating pump is on. Final spin cycle doesn't get past critical speed - and water remains in tub at end. I tried a cycle on the Delicates setting, and this one works correctly, with water drained and spin at the expected slower speed. Cycles worked fine before the bearing change, even though washer was full of 14 years worth of gunk! But I did do serious banging to get bearings out & in. Wax motor function is ok, as is contact with spin enable switch. Checked all 3 switches in the unbalance control system & they're ok with continuity. Motor passed the test routine, motor control board is ok, and the windings all have 2 ohms. So what is next? Control board or is it the timer?

Freddy, Based on the information this issue would be caused by a faulty timer on the unit. It sounds like the contact for the recirculation pump is stuck and not switching to the drain pump.

Joe, First thing to check is the cold water supply to the washer. Check and flush the pipes, check and clean the fill hose debris screens, and the fill valve debris screens. If the washer doesn't fill properly in the specified time(causing the water level switch circuit to close), when the control board checks for a circuit, and it is "open" the control "shuts down".

Hi. Do you also hear ticking while the timer is running? This is a indication of the timer aging. It does sound like the timer needing changed since you have intermittent issues of it completing the cycle fully drained. Also, remove the front panel and see if the drain pump part # WP22003059 is clogged. Clear all debris. If the impeller spins loose on the pump shaft or the pump armature flooded with water, then replace the pump. If there are suds then fill in low -cold water wash and then advance to a final spin and drain over and over until the suds are gone. Thank You.

Hello Al. If the only way to get the water to stop is to turn off the water at the shut-off, you will need to replace the water valve on the unit.

JH, Power to the timer motor is supplied from conn.7 pin 3 ( blk wire). You'll need to use a multimeter and check for 120 VAC at the control board out, and power in at the timer at blk wire no.15 and wht wire no. 11.The voltage should be intermittent, so you'll need to be patient. Also check conn.7 pin 7 (ylw wire) for constant 120 VAC out to the timer (in the wash cycle)as well. If all's OK you'll need to check the wires and the terminal pins in the connection harness and at the timer. Thanks

Hello Randy, Does the door lock light come on? If not, the problem is either the door lock switch or the machine control board or both. You see, the unit cannot spin until the control sees the door has been locked. Open the control panel and look at the r-11 resistor just above the blue rectangular capacitor and if it's burned, you will need the machine control board WP22002989 and the door lock switch WP22002162 in the door lock mechanism. I tried to send you a service manual but your e-mail is too full to receive messages at this time. If you would like to have the service manual, post an e-mail address for me to send it to or clear the one you posted previously so it can hold about 12 Mega bites as this is the size of the manual.

Hello Marijane. Check and make sure the drain pump is not clogged and the water valve is filling the machine fast enough. If the timer is sticking or dragging, you will need to replace the timer WP22002867. Hope this helps.
