Burner won't heat or stuck on high? This infinite switch and seal kit restores heat control and protects against spill damage. Moderate DIY repair.
I took it apart to troubleshoot. I was pretty sure it was the switch but wanted to make sure it wasn't the element as well. Sure enough the switch was burnt at a little piece of copper protruding out the side. The plastic was blackened too which was a telling sign. The element was fine. I replaced the switch, turned on the cooktop and it worked again. Apparently, these switches are wired in series because when this one went out the rest of them wouldn't turn on either. Read more

Downdraft fan not working? This fan switch activates the ventilation system. Moderately difficult repair—requires lifting cooktop to access mounting plate.
I had to take the control board off the bottom of the cooktop and replace the fan switch. The post that fits into the hand switch had broken off. The new switch cost about $35, it was an exact replacement and the whole repair took less than an hour. My wife is very happy because now she can again use the downdraft fan on the cooktop. Burner won't ignite or stay lit? This potentiometer controls gas flow and ignition. Common DIY repair taking 15-30 minutes with basic tools.
After watching a youtube video, I disassembled the front cover on the cooktop (be sure to turn off the power supply). I then switched the potentiometers on two burners. The burner that was not working now worked and the burner that did work did not. Easy to find the culprit....ordered a new potentiometer from here and though I only got regular shipping, it was actually delivered the NEXT DAY! 5 minutes, put in the new part, and all burners work. Great site, thanks for the help! Read more

If your large burner won't heat or stay at the right temperature, the element switch likely needs replacement. Simple 10-15 minute repair with a screwdriver.
You have to take the knob off the broken part, then buy the new switch element and fix it. To do this you turn the power off, take out 6 fasteners to release the front panel of the stove and replace the switch element. Then put it all back together. Very simple. But if the knob was designed better it would not have broken in the first place. It looks nice, but this is the third time I have had to fix one. Read more

1) I installed 4 ea new Whirlpool 700855K switches. (The old switches had INF-240P-871 stamped on them. 700855K was the cross-referenced P/N.) The installation was easy. There is slight difference in the terminal arrangement: 1) the old switch has raised terminals whereas the new switch has recessed terminals (for safety), and 2) the terminal markings are slightly different: The old switch has L1/L2/P/H1/H2 (5 terminals). The new switch has L1/L2/P/HC/H1(Also five terminals. I saw where one... Read more
