Refrigerator User Interface Board Parts
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR55X10956
The Main Control Board is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. This critical component manages and coordinates all of the refrigerator's operations, including temperature regulation, defrost cycles, and the functioning of the compressor and fans. It ensures that the refrigerator maintains the desired temperatures and operates efficiently.
Over time, the main control board can fail due to electrical surges, wear and tear on its electronic components, or exposure to moisture. Manufacturing defects or issues within the refrigerator’s electrical system can also lead to malfunctions, impacting the overall performance of the appliance.
Symptoms of a bad main control board include:
- The refrigerator not cooling or freezing properly
- Unusual or erratic temperature fluctuations
- The refrigerator not responding to control settings
- The compressor or fans not running
- Error codes or lights flashing on the display panel
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Our refrigerator would not hold the correct/ default temperatures for the freezer and the refrigerator so we opted to replace the mother board Joan S. • Palm Harbor , FL • November 03, 2014
I am a 76 year old woman and hesitated to tackle the job. But my son sent me a Utube video "how to replace the board," and I was able to replace it, surprisingly, quite easily. I could have done it in a shorter period of time, if I had not been challenged with these arthritic hands and fingers.
The refrigerator is now holding the temperatures quite nicely.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Lights and compressor failed to restart after power loss accompanied by clicking sounds Richard G. • Midlothian , VA • March 02, 2021
Ordered two boards which were indicated as the possible problem. I took detailed pictures of each board before removing to assure I was reconnecting all the connections correctly. I used a long set of needle nose pliers to remove each connector. The tricky part was trying to figure out how to remove the boards. So far when I experience a power loss the frigid has successfully restarted. Fingers crossed!!

Refrigerator not cooling or control panel blank? This electronic control board manages temperature, defrost cycles, and compressor operation. DIY repair.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
The refrigerator stopped cooling and front panel was blank. The water and ice wouldn't dispense. The interior lights still worked Forest W. • Traverse City , MI • November 12, 2022
A relay in my refrigerator would periodically click off, causing the compressor motor to stop and the LEDs on the front panel to turn off. This became more frequent until it finally "blanked out" permanently. No cooling, no lights on the front panel, no water or ice, only the inside lights worked.
Isolating the problem to the control board was easy, and replacing the control board was very easy thanks to the videos and previous customer reports available here.
After installing the board, I...

Amana br18vw refrigerator wasn't staying cold Adrian B. • Chicago , IL • February 08, 2015
I am not new to APP, fixed a tub belt on a Maytag dryer in the past. My frig started getting warm so I went onto to one of those "lists" sites and found a appliance repair place. The guys were great and came out right away. The tech said it was the cold control and $260 later my part was replaced, about 30 minutes. Great I thought until my frig started getting warm again. Those cold sensors on the beer bottles are a great indicator. Not wanting to spend another $260 I looked up on APP to see if...

The ice maker was filling the ice bucket very slowly (about 25% 50% normal rate). Steven A. • Commack , NY • July 01, 2021
First I called the local retailer to ask about a non-warranty service. Minimum $100 charge. Figured I would take a shot at the repair as I had fixed the fridge once before.
I used a digital thermometer to verify that the temperature in the ice maker compartment was at the right temperature. I put the ice maker in diagnostic mode to eject the ice that was sitting in the ice tray (turn off and on and then push the ice full lever three times). Ice was successfully ejected. Sometimes the ice...

A power surge from snow storm blew the main PCB. Dawn V. • Ellicott City , MD • March 23, 2022
Good ole Maryland with its 70 degree weather one day and a snow storm the next! 55 mph winds do not have any sympathy with above-ground transformers in a snows storm. The transformer blew - partially... then kept popping causing multiple surges to our homes AND electronics. Power was restored several hours later, however my fridge was not working. After I checked it out, I could see the burnt parts on the PCB board itself. I grabbed the part number and ordered the replacement PCB. When it...

Front door would no longer dispense cold water Marc B. • Port Orange , FL • February 18, 2018
After some simple troubleshooting, determined that it was likely the (rear) main control board. Once the new board arrived, it was installed in 5-10 minutes once the refrigerator was pulled out from the wall and the area cleaned up a bit. My only negative feedback was that delivery was too slow by today's standards. Fedex Post was used and in my experience it usually adds an extra 2-days compared to other ground shipping methods. The part was ordered on Sunday night. It shipped out of...

When refrigerator would go into defrost it would trip breaker John M. • Fort Myers , FL • November 01, 2020
I replaced the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer. That corrected the problem. Be careful when ordering your parts. I put in my model# and they gave me a defrost timer that was incorrect. I had to return at my cost and order the correct one. Don't assume because you put in your model# that the part is correct. On each part there is a box to put in your model# to check to see if it fits your model. Don't assume that because you put your model# in before that it fits. If not sure, call them...
