Friction Pad
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8268961

The Friction Pad is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is a component located within the dishwasher door hinge assembly that is responsible for reducing friction and providing smooth operation as the door opens and closes.

Friction pads can wear out over time due to repeated opening and closing of the dishwasher door. This repeated motion causes the pad material to break down gradually. Symptoms of a worn friction pad are:

  • Difficulty opening or closing the dishwasher door
  • Increased noise or squeaking sounds when operating the door
  • Resistance or binding feeling when moving the door
  • Door not staying securely in place when fully opened or closed

This OEM replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Repeated failure of the pump/drain system which was usually preceded by a "buzzing/grinding" noise culminating in a failure to drain   Lawrence R. • Parma , OH • June 04, 2017

I had previously disassemble the pump assembly to find what I at first thought was an oddly shaped spring, which it was. What I learned by researching the parts was that the spring's odd shape was a result of something having gotten caught in the pump and jamming the impeller. After ordering the parts, I watched the "repair video" a few time and proceeded to remove and replaced the affected parts. Reassembly went pretty much as described with the one small glitch being the seating of the new... Read more
