• Leaking

I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side Model ED22PWXBW01. A year ago, the ice cubes started freezing together in the rear of the ice bin for no apparent reason. Although the problem started off small, it gradually grew much worse, and finally I could see water dripping out of the ice mold and into the bin during the fill cycle. Video was very helpful and it was an easy fix for someone with little handyman experience. Received my order much faster than expected! Checked out You tube video. Easy tune up. One gasket was damaged and I did not notice that the brush holders has no brushes. I believe a quick call to Appliance parts pros will fix this, besides I need a few more parts. I expect to get another 20+ years from this KitchenAide mixer, once repairs are competed. Replaced not only the ice chute door flap which was squashed from years of use but the mechanism and motor that operates the flap. The old mechanism seemed to work but it seemed a little sloppy or loose. I knew the flap was bad but for the extra few dollars I thought since I had to take the cover off anyway, why not replace the whole thing. I’m glad I did. The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed... Read more

The Whirlpool refrigerator ice maker is a good design. The 8 32 screw was a problem I could not remove it with the thread lock it prevented me from unscrewing it. Therefore I replaced the shaft the splined hub and spacer washers. It seems to work fine now. Read more

Ordered the freezer door switch and the light. Replaced the freezer door switch and the light and everything is back to normal. Replaced both in less than 15 min with no problems. Read more

• Ice maker won't dispense ice

I first thought it was the auger in the ice container so I changed it and it was not the problem. I then talked to ApplianceParts customer service that it might be the yoke on the motor that turned the auger or even the motor itself even though it worked. I ordered the parts, the yoke was supposed to be able to be changed by itself but mind would not come off the motor shaft so I had to cut it off just to remove it from the unit so I had to change the motor anyway because of this. The video was very helpful, but my KitchenAid model required slightly more steps. Only the two screws in front held the filter housing, same as the video shows, but it has to be removed from the rear. My model did not have the wire brace, only the two front screws held the housing. Shut the water off and pull the electrical plug. Remove the two screws holding the filter housing in the front.
