The ice dispenser chute door had not been sealing for years. The ice cubes on the lower portion of the ice bin would melt enough eventually to then freeze up into a big, amalgamated blob of ice due to ambient air coming up the chute. This refrigerator compressor starting device includes the start relay, overload and cover.
Took the screws off the back plate at the bottom and watched the YouTube video on how to remove the cover plate for the starter and overload on the back of the compressor. Ended up snapping the old cover plate (brittle plastic) so I was glad the "kit" came with a new one. I replaced the Ice Dispenser Lever. Since the replacement part is only available in white and my fridge is bone, I replaced also the Water Dispenser Lever, so it looks much better. Tipped it over on back of unit, supporting it with a little foot stool. Fix a refrigerator that won't cool or clicks repeatedly. This compressor start relay powers the start winding to help your compressor run. DIY repair.
After running some tests I determined that the problem was a bad defrost timer. The timer would occasionally fail to trigger the compressor to restart at the end of the defrost cycle. Since I had the unit taken apart, I replaced the termination t-stat and the compressor start relay at the same time. Parts came quick 1.5 days, job completed and the unit is up and running. Read more
