Washer Transmission
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11393685

Washer making loud metal grinding noise during spin? The transmission converts motor power into drum agitation. Moderate difficulty repair with video guide.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You When in the spin cycle the washer was very loud.   Richard M. • Arlington , WA • July 21, 2021

I knew from the loud sound during the spin cycle that the bearings were going out, I ordered a gearcase part number W11455453 (AP6993918) which has the bearings, tub seal, and shaft altogether which makes the repair much easier to complete. I will say you should also order the spanner wrench it makes taking the spanner nut off and putting back on much easier also, part number TB123B (AP6832671). With this model washer, you don't have to take the tub out you just need to take the washer plate... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer not spinning end of cycle   Jeff C. • Morrisonville , NY • November 21, 2014

Using appliancepartspros.com site took washer apart to diagnose bad clutch. The clutch was bad but once inside I noticed grease everywhere and after a quick online chat with rep. determined gear case was leaking and needed replacement. Replaced clutch & gear case. Followed video tutorial and took a little more than 30 minutes start to finish for me - I have no experience. The most difficult part for me was actually just getting the retainer ring (little wire) to secure clutch in place-took... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water tank leak   Gordon T. • Jonesboro , AR • January 27, 2017

Our refrigerator takes care of my wife and I, along with our children when they visit, and the grand kids. Over the years, it's seen its fair share of wear and tear. Thankfully, nothing major has happened that hasn't been able to be repaired right here in the home, and by me. Our refrigerator is a GE side-by-side with an ice maker/water dispenser, and has held up well. I've ordered parts for it from AppliancePartsPros.com for all of its repairs, and while GE/Frigidaire have been changing out a... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You GE washer was making a grinding noise during agitation but not the spin cycle.   James M. • Walworth , NY • February 12, 2023

Using repair help suggestions from other users and youtube, I narrowed it down to the transmission (part #320) mainly because it was a metal-to-metal noise. The parts came in one day, thank you AppliancePartsPros.com. I installed the transmission but the noise was still there. Unfortunately, I didn't investigate enough and found a youtube video that suggested it could be the mode shifter (part #325) and that's what it was. I still saved money because having a service tech fix this problem... Read more

By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11346622

This is a water reservoir tank assembly used in the refrigerator's water dispensing or filtration system. It holds filtered water and supplies it to the dispenser or ice maker as needed. Replace this assembly if you notice water leaks inside the refrigerator compartment, reduced water flow from the dispenser, or if the existing reservoir is cracked or damaged.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I had a leak at the water inlet valve   Nicholas C. • Wildwood , MO • May 15, 2020

I had a slow leak at the water inlet valve where the water line from the filter assembly connected to the water inlet valve. I determine that the water line had scratches in it which caused it to not seal. Had to buy the entire reservoir and filter assembly to get that water line. The replacement was smooth. It took about 30 minutes to swap out and it fixed the leak. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bearings in gear box   M N. • La Vista , NE • April 29, 2024

Bought new Transmission/gear box. Putting in the new one was easy. Taking the old one out was a nightmare. The corrosion on the spanner nut and drive block was awful. Ten years of VERY hard water and six kids made for a lot of corrosion and hard water crystallization. I do not own a spanner wrench. I am not sure having one would've helped. I tried pipe wrenches, needle nose vice-grips and many other ways. What eventually worked was taking a three inch ratchet extension, putting it... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water tank assembly leaking   Mark Y. • Ballinger , TX • August 22, 2016

Replaced tank assembly. Actually I think the supply hose was originally not fully seated in the tank and I think I could have re-seated it deeper through the gray bushing. When I set the line into the new tank, still leaking. Pulled out supply line and reset using a little more force and line went into the tank. Took the bushing clip off the other tank and used it for the supply line bushing. So far, no leaks. The thing to remember is to push the edges of each hose bushing inward to pull... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Water dispenser made a lot of noise   Pablo C. • Apex , NC • November 23, 2015

Water dispenser came down to a trickle and made a lot of noise, I changed the filter but it didnt help and thus the water tank/head assembly needed to be replaced. Replacing the water Tank/head assembly was an easy task, the hardest part is removing the covers and taking care of not breaking the insulation of the water inlet hose. For the not-so-experts like me it is also good to rememebr to have a bucket to collect all the water that comes out after the connection to the solenoid valves is... Read more

After watching installation videos on each felt I could pull it off and ordered and received replacement water reservoir and water dispenser tube assembly. Reservoir installation went off without a hitch outside of the added step of the need to remove the entire main in waterline assy in order to access the connectors which also were not as represented in video, in that they were not the press-to-release type but standard threaded compression types. Washer Transmission Gearcase

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washing machine was making a grinding sound when in the wash cycle   Steven L. • Lauderdale , MS • July 13, 2026

I replaced the washer's transmission. The replacement was a little bit detailed because you need to remove several parts inside the washer and under the bottom of the unit. The replacement took more time removing older parts and cleaning the washing machine before I could replace the transmission itself. All tools required were on hand except the tool used to remove the large bolt inside the washer drum. This tool was found on Amazon and cost around $15.00. Other than that, it was straight... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Teeth stripped from gear in transmission   Robert G. • Wentzville , MO • June 17, 2015

The parts I purchased from Appliance Parts Pro fit perfectly and were reasonably priced. I received them the next day, which made the Wife (and me) very happy. Although Appliance Parts Pro did not have a repair video for this, I was able to find one online and the machine is washing like new again. The website is well laid out and easy to find what your looking for. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Low water pressure from water dispenser following filter change   Paul C. • Riverview , FL • May 26, 2014

Every six months I change my refrigerator filter. I purchased a new filter (UKF8001) and installed it just like I've done many times before. This time, when I first used the water dispenser, I got a horrible sound (kind of like a jack hammer/vibration) followed by very little water flow. I disconnected the new filter and reinstalled the old filter, thinking maybe I got a bad filter. No improvement. I removed the filter and put the bypass cap on and everything returned to normal. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The water coming from the ice maker and water dispensor had a foul odor and taste even after changing the filter   David H. • Needham , MA • May 15, 2015

I replaced the supply line to the fridge - no change in taste. I replaced the MWF manifold and tubes, the water inlet valve and the water storage line. That did it, good tasting water again! The ice still has a bad taste, so I'll replace the supply tube from the valve to the ice maker. Overall, replacing these parts was easy and the videos from Appliance Parts Pros helped. Read more
