Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... Checking pricing and availability of the thermostat prices were very close at $40 BUT wait now you have to but the thermo mastic at another $35-$40. I replaced the icemaker. It was fairly easy, with the most difficult part being access to the icemaker in the bottom freezer. I loosened two screws, removed one additional screw, disconnected the wiring and removed the old icemaker. I mounted the wiring harness and ice level sensor arm from the old unit onto the new icemaker and installed it with no problems. I wish I'd done this months ago instead of repeatedly attempting to repair the old icemaker. Read more

Replaced ice maker unit. 4 screws to remove cover on inside door. 2 screws for ice maker. Three connectors: ice maker on/off switch, LED light, wiring harness connector. A second person assisted by bracing the door for me, but not necessary to get the job done. I also used some cellophane and tape to cover the door opening for the 5 minutes it took to replace the unit. I replaced the warped cover guide and the lint filter. Now it works perfect! Sears was going to charge $100 just to diagnose the well known problem, not including parts and labor. It only requires 4 screws(i used the old ones). Easy fix. Read more
