I watched the Appliance Parts Pros repair video and decided to remove the front panel to diagnose the problem. While the repair video is excellent, I could not remove the ice/water dispenser front panel with a putty knife. On my model, 106.56234400, there is no clip that can be released by sliding a putty knife up under the front panel. It was a classic horror story, but with a happy ending! I called a classic, "regular" repair company that I obtained on-line. My Whirlpool was 2 months out of warranty, so the repairman charged a trip-fee of $95 that would be subtracted from the cost of my repair. A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The refrigerator would perform a forced defrost which resulted in a cold refrigerator. Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). Found the correct replacement in your easy to navigate parts lookup, ordered part, arrived sooner than I expected, Needed a nut driver to remove old part, unplugged harness, plugged new part in , retightened three screws and began making ice. The 20 year old unit still serves us well, looks good and has been kept in good repair. The condenser fan had stopped so I removed, cleaned and oiled that motor. The decision was made to make an upgrade to the evaporator motor and control units so that the appliance could reasonably be expected to have extended service life. Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! Living in Texas it is hot all the time, even in fall, so our family loves our cold filtered water and ice. We woke up one morning with water all over the floor in the kitchen. Looked up parts based on fridge model number, watched videos, and replaced parts using just a few tools... easy. Parts came quick, well packaged. After 16 years, plastic parts deteriorate and break. Right-side gasket replacement was straightforward. Left side required removal of mullion, which stumped me. I contacted Appliance Parts Pros who gave me the necessary instructions: Remove the center screw and lift up the mullion. Simple enough, once I knew how to do it. Read more

The drain tube for for the defrost cycle seemed to be blocked, so I googled the repair & it sent me to AppliancePartsPros. Obviously, there's a design problem with this model since many other people have the same issue. This tube is an upgrade on the original for my KitchenAid model (design flaw).
