Amana Lid Switch
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP8318084

The Lid Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines that is responsible for detecting whether the washing machine lid is closed before allowing the machine to start or continue a cycle. By preventing the washer from operating with an open lid, this switch helps to avoid potential spills or accidents, making it an essential safety feature. The lid switch is activated by the closing of the machine's lid, engaging the washing cycle only when secure closure is detected.

Symptoms of a failing Lid Switch include:

  • The washing machine not starting or completing a cycle
  • The washer not spinning or draining
  • The appliance operating only when the lid is pressed down manually

Causes of a bad Lid Switch can range from mechanical wear and tear to accidental damage, such as slamming the lid too hard or frequently, which can misalign or damage the switch mechanism. Additionally, corrosion caused by moisture or detergent residue can also impair the switch's function.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Won't start
  • Timer will not advance
  • Will not drain

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Our washing machine filled then began washing the wife opened the lid to add one more item and it would no longer wash or spin   Chris J. • Lakeland , FL • January 02, 2018

First I checked the circuit breakers and power to the outlet, then next wanted to check the lid switch, but it wasn't where I had found it on older models. I could hear it clicking on and off as I raised and lowered the lid, but it wasn't visible. I drained the tub through a siphon hose to lighten the machine, so I could slide it away from the wall to better see. Couldn't see the switch anywhere and decided it must be hiding in the raised console, but was unsure of how to attack it without... Read more

Amana Temperature Selector Switch
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP3399639

The Temperature Selector Switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. This electro-mechanical switch allows consumers to choose between heat settings that adequately dry different fabric types.

Causes of a damaged selector switch can include regular wear from hundreds of cycles over the appliance's lifetime. Mineral deposits accumulating inside linkage mechanics may cause rotational movements to stiffen. The physical impacts of shifting internal contact positions could potentially lead to switching issues as well.

Symptoms of a faulty temperature selector involve:

  • Inability to change heat level for desired drying performance
  • Temperature remaining stuck on highest or lowest settings
  • Lint filter or duct cleaning lights failing to illuminate properly

This OEM replacement is compatible with some Kenmore and KitchenAid electric dryer models too.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 1 no heat on high or low settings and sometimes on medium heat setting 2 no auto cool down   Robert H. • Renton , WA • March 11, 2015

I replaced the cycle switch, fixing the lack of heat. The timer switch replacement fixed the auto cool down. I watched a cycle switch replacement on Youtube, demonstrating removal of the top console, which answered the only question I had about the repair. The timer switch was a hundred bucks. The only thing to be said about that is that it was a lot cheaper than a repairman or replacing the dryer. Read more
