This cotter pin is an authentic OEM replacement part sourced directly from the manufacturer for use on many different lawn and garden machines in many different applications. Cotter pins are pins that are made of metal that are bent with or without curves on one side. The u-shaped pin is used to secure bolts in place. After installation, the ends of the pin are twisted to hold it tightly in place. One example of cotter pin use is on lawnmower wheels. After the wheel is placed on the shaft, the cotter pin slides through the hole on the end of the shaft to keep the wheel in place.Over time, cotter pins may become rusted, or the part being held together may need to be replaced. When the cotter pin is removed, a new one should be installed to ensure a tight hold. Use pliers to untwist or straighten the cotter pin for removal. Pull the cotter pin back through the hole using the pliers. To install a new cotter pin, push the pin through the hole and spread the ends in opposite directions once the pin is through the hole.This cotter pin is made of heavy-duty metal and is sold individually.
