Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My refrigerator items were freezing   Mayilet F. • Hialeah , FL • February 24, 2020

I ordered a freezer temperature control. I ordered from you because parts are certified. Last thing I wanted was to go through the replacement process with a part that didn’t work. I’m not a handy person by nature, and I have zero common sense. I watched the awesome instructional video that you provided with my order several times. Before receiving or even opening the package, I felt that I knew what to expect because I watched the video so many times. Before beginning, I made sure I had as... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge side wasn't staying cold massive ice build up in freezer ice blockage in fan duct   Christopher M. • Yorba Linda , CA • December 15, 2014

Condenser was encased in solid block of ice due to automatic defrost not working. Replaced thermostat and ADC control board. Working fine now. Most tedious part was using a heat gun to melt all the ice off the condenser coils. You will need a couple small wire nuts to splice the new thermostat into the existing harness (they are not included). Service tech wanted over $400 to repair, fixed it myself for half that. Thanks ! Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Upright frost free freezer would not keep food frozen (Frigidaire name plate but made by (Electrolux) testing determined the refrigeration system worked but it would not defrost.   Kenton K. • Chanhassen , MN • May 31, 2020

Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. The only way to remove the control panel is to pry the panel out of the door using a thin-bladed putty knife. The instructions provided were very good in explaining the process;... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling   Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana model afd2535deb freezer cold fridge too warm not defrosting   Dan R. • Woodruff , SC • November 09, 2015

Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Obviously, the auto defrost cycle had not been running, or was short-cycling. Manually defrosted. Found this link for running diagnostic tests on the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Freezer was cold but refrigerator was warm   Beth M. • Marengo , IL • August 06, 2018

After we moved into our new home, we realized that the freezer was very cold and the fins were frosting over, and the refrigerator wasn't cold. We had to take it apart and manually defrost it about once every 8 to 10 days. After research online, we found Appliance Parts Pros videos, which clearly explained how to fix it ourselves, a savings of at least $1,000 or more, since a new one of this size would have been in the arena of $1,200 to $2000. We ordered the three most likely parts to be bad,... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You No cooling from refrigerator lights worked but compressor did not run   Jeff B. • Ovalo , TX • May 07, 2015

Checked compressor windings - ok. Start relay looked no rattle or burning. Start capacitor seamed ok but hard to check. No 120VC to start relay at any time. Ordered thermistor, and electronic control unit. Figuring it was a bad thermistor not telling the ECU it was warm and to turn on the compressor. Or the ECU was damaged and was not sending the 120v to the compressor. Changed the thermistor first (cheapest part and as Appliance parts pros has a return policy I wanted to start there). ... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The icemaker not making ice.   David S. • Lawrenceville , GA • July 17, 2021

Got the infamous icemaker freezing up problem so common to Frigidaire Gallery and Professional series refrigerators. I was also only getting the "OP" code on the diagnostic test 26, so I determined the defrost heater and/or the thermostat was probably bad. So, I went ahead and replaced both of them, as well as installed the updated air handler housing kit. What I didn't realize from the parts pictures was that the air handler kit was not only updated foam replacements, but it was also a... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice build up in top freezer of refrigerator   Kevin S. • Mission Viejo , CA • May 13, 2015

After watching numerous videos I was able to discern that the problem was with one of the following: the timer, the heater, or the thermostat. a short time check showed me that the timer was working so that narrowed it down to the other two. Not having the necessary tools to check those two I ordered both parts. Once the parts came and I took out the old parts it was quite evident that it was the heater since it had black burn marks on it. I decided to install the thermostat also since it... Read more
