I determined that it was a problem that occurred during the defrost cycle by resetting the GFCI outlet and forwarding the defrost timer until the defroster came on. First checked the power then took off the compresser connections cover looked for burnt wires or loose or disconnected wires they were none of those I then removed the wires from the starter an overload protector removed them checked both for contunuaty overload protector no contunuaty then I checked the 3 poles on the comp. for contunuaty they were ok then I checked each pole to ground on the com. to final check that the comp. was still good Read more

Ordered both parts from Appliancepartspros.com. The pictures of the website made it easy to order the correct parts. So far I've replaced the grill / kick plate. Took me longer to vacuum out the dust from the coils than it took to replace the part. Have not yet replaced the inner door panel. That will be a project for this coming weekend. Purchased a replacement COMPRESSOR. The compress or was a replacement for MFG. P/N 5304478809. The compressor was not an exact replacement. There was no port identification so the connections took a lot of time searching the net and then only the suction port was noted. I had to operate the compressor to be sure of the discharge port.The start relay on the original had no power plug as the new one did so had to improvise by cutting the wiring and adding 1/8 push on clips and then sliding on to... Replaced the fan and blade. Would have been easy except the mounting threads were different than the original Kenmore freezer came with. After a 14 mile round trip for 2 5/32 screws and washers, I had my freezer back. Included an improved wiring harness than the original. Read more

Removed the freezer shelves and back panel, evaporator coils were frozen with ice. Defrosted coil and removed defrost heater connectors, measured no continuity in the heater and ordered a replacement. Also discovered the aluminum retention strap was broken and the heater had slipped down in it's position, ordered and replacement strap. I replaced defrost timer (which I am glad I did because of wear on the points) but that did not cure the problem. So after checking other components, I found that the temperature control was the culprit. No problem, I will simply order part # 2162521100.
